Hi Susan,
Yes we need to keep our hope up. My great-great grandfather spent the last 25 years of his life in a mental hospital with the same thing I have. Now with the advances we have, I am able to live and take care of myself without hospitalization. I was told by a psychiatrist I had years ago that without my meds I would be where my g-g-grandfather was. We can all be thankful for the advances in treatments for depression and anxiety. When I was young all they had were tranquilizers. I do have some chamomile tea bags that I forgot about and you are right about it being a calmative. I'll have to go back to drinking it. I will talk with my doctor about Tizanidine. I do get tight muscles and my legs tend to jerk at night. Thank you for these suggestions.

Thank you for posting for the first time. I am glad that you have found a combination that is working for you. May you continue on in good mental health.

Hi, John, I was reading over your post, and saw you mention your legs jerking at night. I take the Tizanidine I mentioned for RLS - Restless Legs Syndrome and it helps.
Was trying not to cross-post my 'syndromes'.
I hope you get some relief - you don't need that on top of depression.

Also, I've jumped off & back on the Prozac wagon different times over the years.
Best, Susan
@sistergoldenhair

I take Wellbutrin ER, generic prozac, and floroxatine (or however it's spelled) and they are all working great together.

However, I'm writing to echo sistergoldenhair's comments about restless legs syndrome. I had a sleep study to see if i had sleep apnea. It turned out that my legs were jerking me awake so often (although i was unaware of this) I never dropped into REM sleep so no matter how long I slept I never got a GOOD night's sleep. I now take generic Miraplex and it has CHANGED MY LIFE. No more problems falling asleep, staying asleep or getting g a good night's sleep. If you have never had a sleep study, you might want to discuss it with your doctor and see what s/he thinks. It's a pain in the you know where to have all those electrodes glued (literally) all over but they are there to monitor your brain and body activity while you sleep (or don't) and diagnosis your problem.

Usually covered by insurance.
Good luck getting to the bottom of your problem.

Hi, @berit - I saw your post, and had to smile. I went for a sleep study due to restless legs, and they found I also had sleep apnea.
Along w/ the restless legs, they found I had Periodic Limb Movement Disorder, the jerking of legs during sleep that you described. My study was also covered by insurance. P.S. Prozac and fluoxetine are the same drug, one is simply brand name, the other generic, and cheaper. - - Susan

Was having trouble getting more that 4 hrs sleep a night. The Dr. sent to a sleep clinic, the test said I was having 27 sleep interuptions a night. I purchased a CPAP (Continuous Positive Air Pressure). Best $600 I ever spent.

Happy it's working for you! It's a wonderful machine! If you are on Medicare they will help pay for it and after so many years you own it!

I never heard of anyone taking Wellbutrin and Prozac together. Is a general practitioner or psychiatrist giving these? I would trust the latter ! Just my opinion!

Hi! I have had two psychiatrists prescribe generics Prozac and Wellbutrin.
Plus i take Lithium! In the past, I took Wellbutrin and Effexor for several
years, also prescribed by a third psychiatrist.
Best! Cathy

Thank you, sisterGH for pointing that out. I take the generic, but my doc calls it Prozac and I just throw the stuff in my pill box I have a short term memory of maybe 5 minutes so I was not connecting the dots). Are you on a C-PAP machine? i didn't mention it, but I also have spell apea. As weird as it looks, and as awkward as it can sometimes be to use it, it sure helps me get a better night's sleep.

Hi Cowboy!
Yes, the Wellbutrin and the Prozac are prescribed by my psychiatrist. i've taken it for about 2 years now and it works very well. i am also taking a 3rd med, topiramate, generic for Topamax. It took us about a year to come up with this combination in the amounts I am taking but what a JOY to finally find a combination that WORKS. Long may it last! I've taken other combinations that worked for a time then became much less effective.

And while I'm writing I am going to plug Mayo-Rochester's 2 week, 5 days a week, out-patient depression/bipolar program for anyone who might be interested. I'm not kidding when I say it saved my life. I was having suicidal ideation up the wazoo in spite of meds and therapy 2xs weekly. I have friends in Minneapolis so I had a free place to stay. It's a combination of group therapy, education, games, yoga/exercise, data collection and planning, mindfulness/focus/concentration. At the point I went EVERYTHING had failed me and this was a last ditch effort to save my life.

That was over a year ago. Good-by suicidal ideation, hello to better management of my daily life and FINALLY moving on after a lifetime of depression and the crisis event that nearly ended my life. I cannot recommend this program too highly. It doesn't work for everyone, there were two people in my group that dropped out (interestingly we all knew, the first day, that they would). You need to be screened first. My insurance covered the cost otherwise the cost would be prohibitive. There is lots of info about the program on the Mayo website under I forget what but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Here's to moving on, living a better happier life! God knows how much we have all suffered and many times continue to suffer, this perfectly awful, stimatizing disease. I've heard people say that wouldn't wish such and so on their worst enemy. Personally, I think depression is the PERFECT disease to wish on your worse enemy. I've had cancer and I'd rather have it again then an uncontrolled depression. No one who hasn't had an uncontrolled depression so bad you can barely get out of bed could possibly this but you all who have been there, and maybe still are, know EXACTLY what i am talking about.

May everyone who is suffering find something that works.
Berit

I take Wellbutrin AND Prozac - prescribed by a Board-Certified Psychiatrist and it's working great for me. I take the Wellbutrin daily, the Prozac every other day.
