Forteo and weight gain
I’ve been on Forteo since my surgery 14 weeks ago and I have put on 20 pounds and I feel so uncomfortable and depressed . Is there anything else that would be as good to take with out the weight gain? Waiting desperately for help 🥲🙁

Belly fat is a common experience in women who are menopausal and are not using bhrt.
Yes - I’ve had unexplained weight gain since starting Forteo - diet and exercise is the same as prior to going on Forteo - so this makes sense now…
Oh my goodness I am glad I found your post. I have ben researching and asking my doctors Why have I gained belly fat since I started Forteo! Never had weight problem before. I am eating a pretty much all protein deit. No sugars, carbs. Thought I was alone with this problem. Thank you for posting
My question now is for people who have finished the Tymlos treatment - does the belly fat and bloat go away after treatment ?? Please let me know if you get info on that
I’m on Tymlos and gained about 15# of belly weight within the first 6 months of treatment. It caused me to be very depressed. I enrolled in the weight loss program at my local hospital and have lost some weight but not my belly fat. I will be finished with the Tymlos in June of 2025 so am keeping my fingers crossed.
If any of you find out from you doctor what we should do about the belly bloat caused by Tymlos/ Forteo please post what you find out!
My doctor didn't have any info/and said the belly weight is not from the drug but I think otherwise.
Also---- If I stay on Tymlos for the full recommended 18 months , which biophosphonate has the LEAST amount of side effects? I am trying to decide which to take after Tymlos treatment. Frankly, based on what I have read about the available biophosphonates, they all seem to have undesirable side effects! -hair loss, heart issues, etc. Ugh. any advice is appreciated
2024tymloshelp,
so many tymlos patients have reported weight gain especially at the belly and hips that it is impossible not to acknowlege the connection. Some people report that the fat goes away when you quit taking Tymlos (Forteo, too) but gradually. In my opinion liposuction is the best remedy. We can do a lot with diet and evercise, though fat in the stomach is the hardest ot lose. Still, you can't really counter the effect or parathyroid hormone. It prevents the normal apoptosis (cell death) and sloughing off of fat cells. Tymlos is such a great medication for the bones that I hope you'll continue to use it. Liposuction is the kindest and quickest way to lose fat cells.
I appreciate your reply and honesty.
In the end,
Better bone density will be worth the extra waist inches but I needed to know that there will be a way to lose the belly fat after treatment.
Thanks for the support
I am currently on month 18 of Tymlos and experienced the weight gain and belly fat when I first started the medication. I recently switched doctors and when I sat down with my new endocrinologist the other day I asked if her patients are reporting this problem and she said a few. She went on to say that she felt it was not due to the medication but rather lifestyle choices. So …, I have lost some of the weight working with a weight management doctor and a small dose of Topiramate but not the belly fat. I guess liposuction will need to be a consideration if I don’t lose it after my 24 months on tymlos
