New medication Dupiexnt just approved Sept.
Hello I'm not sure if anyone has tried the new treatment for COPD. It was just approved by the FDA September 2024. It's called Dupiexnt. It's an injection you take yourself every two weeks. It targets inflammation only which basically is what causes the flare ups. I started my first injection last Wednesday and I have hardly used any of my inhalers except my maintenance inhaler which is Breztri. My next injection is next Wednesday. I'm so excited about this drug. I can breathe and have more energy to do things. It's truly a life saver. There is hope if you just look for it. Good luck everyone and I hope you will try this new treatment.

Would Dupixent potentially help me?
I have inflammation in my lungs but I do not have a high eosinophil count. It is near the low end of normal.
If there is a chance I will ask my pulmonologist about it.
I use oxygen 24/7 and use Trelegy daily as well as Combivent Respimat as needed up to twice a day.
I take 6 mg prednisone daily because my adrenal gland doesn't make cortisol anymore.
That would be a question for you physician.....easinophil blood count and sputum eosinophils can determine your candidacy for Dupixent. But I wise physician taught me......".Don't look at the numbers, look at the patient. "
Am a tad surprised that the prednisone that you are taking for adrenal insufficiency is no helping a little with the lung inflammation. I am currently on Dupixent since 11/13/23 to current and a maintenance with Breztri. I had a low eosinophil count but several exacerbations requiring steroid therapy. I do get some relief however>
Yes I think this is a question for your doctor. My doctor didn't know anything about Dupiexnt or it's biologic components for treatment He had to discuss how the medicine worked with some colleagues before prescribing it to me. The medicine is to treat Type 2 inflammation which is a high level eosinophils. If you don't have this you may not qualify for the treatment. I researched my CBC blood tests on my patient portal back to 2015 and my eosinophils levels were high back then as well. I had asthma as a child maybe this is why the level as been high all this time.
I will ask my pulmonologist. I suspect he might have already considered it, he seems very good to me.
I suspect the prednisone is helping a little with the inflammation. When the inflammation first started it was real bad and they used prednisone to fight it. I was in the ICU for 21 days and they went up to 1000 mg of methyl prednisolone by IV to knock it down. I have tapered down to 6 mg and I hope I don't have to ever use more.
The inflammation is caused by a toxic reaction to my immunotherapy drug - Durvalumab.
You may still be able to try the Dupiexnt. It wouldn't hurt. It has really helped me to breathe better and I have not had any exacerbations. Just ask your doctor the next time you go to see him . Sending hugs and prayers 🙏🏼
