MAC patients who have taken antibiotics

Hello, all! To the patients who have taken “the big 3” antibiotics. Did you take probiotics during your treatment in hopes of avoiding gastro-intestinal issues? Thanks in advance!

I took probiotics during my entire use of the big 3 for 3 years with no problems. I was on them before I started the big 3 and continue today. I have not heard of anyone having problems but there could be. Good Luck

I have been taking probiotics since the beginning of treatment which is April 2023. I switch about every two months: florastor, (Walmart always have a coupon)culturella ( Costco)recently advanced digestive probiotic from Costco too. Plus don’t forget yogurts.

Thank you SO much especially for the plus info! Did your doc tell you not to take the probiotics at the same time as the MAC meds?

I am about to start the anti-biotics. I am preparing by taking the probiotics ahead of time and during the time I take the antibiotics. I will also be sure to have something to eat at the time I take the antibiotics.
For what it is worth,
I read that we should not have dairy, high fiber foods, acidic foods, and only very low calcium foods at the time we take the antibiotics. Basically doing all we can to get the full benefit from the antibiotics and not have calcium or even magnesium or certain foods keeping us from fully absorbing the antibiotics. That rule is approximately three hours after the antibiotic intake and 6 hours before.
Has anyone been told this and what do you think...????

I started with pro-biotics when I started with the Big 3 but the pro-biotics doubled me over in pain.
I think they work for some folks, but I've read of many people having the same issue I did.

I have always taken Culturelle Probiotics which I get at BJ's when on sale. Yogurt I can't do as I have IBS.

I wonder if it is the timing of taking the probiotics during the day and or the dosage or other stomach problems that may exist at the time of taking the probiotics.
As with so many things we might do better taking low dosages and gradually building up to a higher dosage. Just wondering?? If what I have read, I don't believe it is suggested or best to take the probiotics at the very same time you take the antibiotics. Has anyone been told that?

I tried a variety of different time frames.
I've also had doctors including Gastroenterologist say to take Pro-biotics AFTER antibiotic treatment is over and not during.
