Vibrating vest

Posted by spider109 @spider109, Nov 3 3:37am

I was just asked to try the AffloVest which of course vibrates to help loosen mucus from our airways to be expelled. There are three modes, vibrating, percussion, and drainage. This vest is battery operated so you can be mobile while using. I would like to hear anyone who has used this particular vest what there experiences are. Particularly do you use it at the same time you nebulize? I nebulize Albuterol followed by 7% saline. Or do you use vest after nebulizing. Thank-you. Any Tips and advice appreciated

I use the Hillrom vest. I tried the portable but it was very heavy. I fid 20 minutes goes pretty fast. I did start nebulizing while on the vest but the I had acid reflex so do it separately now.
Good luck!

Okay Marie thank/you. Did you find that it helped a lot? My Dr. has me on a sequence of the vest that lasts 40 mins!!! It does seem to bring up more mucus, but only small amounts at a time. I’ve done it separately also, and try postural drainage at the same time. But 40 mins is a long time with the vest only. It takes about 30 mins to nebulize before the vest. (Albuterol & 7% saline). Just looking for effective shortcuts I guess. But every bit of mucus helps.

No. Most of my mucous is in the morning. My husband does chest PT and that helps. It gets frustrating when nothing comes up with all our efforts.
I guess we just need to keep going with all these techniques and hope it helps!
Good luck

I also use the Hillrom Vest, but for 20 minutes. I use the albuterol aerosol puffer instead of nebulizing it. This saves me about 15 minutes. I do the albuterol aerosol puffer first, then the vest, then I nebulize 3% sodium chloride. Lastly I use the acapella flutter device for mucus clearing. This method works for me. I hope this helps. Any better suggestions from anyone would be welcome.

I own an Afflovest and it gave me rib pain so I stopped. Recently, met with pulmonary who suggested I re-try it with all settings on low. Previously, I used high settings only. So I will retry it for 30 minutes twice a day on low. I plan to use it during 7% saline neb and after until 30 minutes are up followed by AD app and other breathing techniques.

Hi Scoop,
If you don’t mind me asking; what is an AD app?
Thanks!

AD=Autogenic Drainage. It's available for free on the App store. It's essentially airway clearance coaching which employs the autogenic (self-generated) drainage technique. Give it a try. I use it everyday and would be lost without it!
