diagnosis or treatment for my 15 year old with tachycardia.

Posted by kdwest422 @kdwest422, Oct 21 5:33pm

My 15 year old has extremely high heart rates regardless of what she is doing. We are under the care of a cardiologist and have had echo and ekg's done. svt & pots ruled out. stress test done in June & found issue but no diagnosis. Her bp dropped to 82/49 her heart rate at 218. Takes salt daily. She was also cleared to participate in color guard/ marching band. As the competition season continues the following is happening,, she will stay between 189 and 220 for the 15 minute program. Then after ward is very dizzy and short of breath and sometimes extremely zoned out or confused. When they have prelims and finals the same day by the end of the finals her blood pressure is low and catching her breath is sometimes impossible. Then for the next 24 to 72 hours she feels like a train has hit her and is dizzy. The newest symptoms: Her legs feel like jelly & chest tightness. She is not critical enough for the cardiologist to give it much attention. ..

Can you share what if anything showed up on the echo? Was a bubble study done to rule out a tiny hole between the atrium or ventricular septums? I agree this could be autonomic dysfunction related to the involuntary nervous system.

Has anyone considered a consult with an infectious disease MD and or a neurologist for possible tick borne illnesses or other neurotoxins like mold(sick building syndrome). There are numerous effects on the brain that someone who has been exposed to mold or other neurotoxins can affect autonomic nervous system functions. Get a new EP Cardiologist as soon as possible! This is so abnormal esp for a young person.
That is serious heart ♥️ issues she’s dealing with .
Is she on any meds for Tachycardia or BP or A- Fib ?
Has she worn a Holter monitor for 7 to 14 days ? That’s a must .
I’m so sorry 😞, I deal with heart ♥️ PVCs / PAC’s most of my life . I take Heart Calm Supplements when it happens. I also have 7 different chronic digestive disorders last 10 years. It’s horrendous.
I’ll give you link or google Heart Calm .
3 diff magnesium’s w/ potassium and Q-10 .
I take 2 at onset can take 3 .
Usually it helps . I have Gastro Cardiac syndrome now too .

I buy direct through them , the only product they make . Affordable and free shipping in USA .

P.S.
The echo won’t show electrical problems of the heart .
Holter Monitor a must .

She needs EP Cardiologist ( new one as I said in other long comment).

An echo will show deposition of plaque, which can cause myocardial death and rhythm abnormalities. When looking into heart problems, medicine knows to treat the heart as an integrated whole, or a 'system' of components and processes that rely on each other.

An echo can also reveal atrial enlargement which can result from AF, or cause AF when it promotes mitral valve prolapse.

I just want to ask a question that @windyshores already asked- Was her cortisol level tested?
My daughter developed tachycardia in her early 20 s. The cardiologist put her on beta blockers without a work up.
Turns out she was later diagnosed with Cushing’s- cortisol was very high, causing high BP in addition to other symptoms.

I had as serious for7 years beginning age 14. Was revealed it was my drinking coffee and colas. NOTHING with caffeine. No Mountain Dew as it has more caffeine than cola. No energy drinks. Low refined sugars and processed foods.

She needs to see an EP immediately! You may want to switch to another cardiologist, too. I was misdiagnosed & thankfully changed to a great cardiologist in January 2024, he then referred me to an EP. I now see them both for excellent care!

kdwest142,

I am so sorry to hear that your daughter is experiencing arrhythmias at such a young age. My mother had SVT in her mid 30’s and lived until age 92 thanks to her wonderful Cardiologist and EP.

My heart issues started with symptoms of dizziness, dyspnea, and shortness of breath in 2020. I had just returned from 5 weeks in Europe, including hiking in Switzerland. I was fit and healthy.

I had a full workup at two medical centers: 3 Echos, 2 Holter monitors, ECGs, CT Angio, and Pulmonary Function tests over a two year timespan. No clear diagnosis or treatment plan. I developed hypoxia ( low oxygen) and I was prescribed 2 liters of oxygen at home.

I retired from Healthcare IT , so I purchased an Apple Watch, Lookee Tech ECG, Lookee Tech Oximeter, and Omron Connect Blood Pressure Monitor. All data readings went to a apps on my phone for reporting to show to my Cardiologist and EP. There was no real diagnosis to explain my symptoms from two Cardiology groups.

I self referred myself to Mayo Rochester where I was diagnosed with Afib, Group 2 Pulmonary Hypertension, Heart Failure (HFPEF), and tricuspid valve regurgitation.

I highly recommend purchasing home monitoring equipment that collects data on your daughters phone and generates reports you can show to your Cardiology team. Please send a private message if you have equipment questions. I pray you get answers soon for your daughter.
