THR, Anterior Approach - 3 week mark

60 yo, female
Total right hip replacement, anterior, 3 wks ago. Able to walk unaided, but limping and joint pain when walk. Muscle pain & burning in thigh and side of hip.
Question: How long b4 joint pain when walking and muscle pain subsides? I am due to have same surgery on Left hip in 23 days. Thank you.

@mari Thanks for your post regarding stem cells during surgery. I'm not familiar with that. If you feel comfortable sharing more information it might be helpful. Is this something that is done routinely or at certain medical centers? How does it help with pain and healing. Thanks again for this interesting bit of information.

Hi Leigh,
It sounds to me like you are doing really well. Based on my own experience (I've had both hips replaced, one 6 years ago, the other 6 weeks ago), the pain should be pretty much gone over the next few weeks. I have just a little bit of stiffness in the muscles around the new hip. Good luck!

@leigh60 If you have any hesitations about your second surgery, please express those concerns to your surgeon. It is important that you feel comfortable with the timetable. Perhaps after your pain subsides a bit more you can feel more prepared and comfortable about your next surgery. Remember that it is important to be your own patient advocate and, to some degree, follow your feelings as well as the advice of your medical team. Best wishes as you make this decision.

I add my welcome and am glad you've connected with Teresa already. I'm tagging fellow members to bring them into the discussion. @mnpat @grandmacheryl @popolopo @sma1952 and @tallteri have all had hip replacements and can share their experiences of recovery and pain management with you.

Leigh, I can imagine that you're concerned about having surgery on the other hip in only 23 days from now since you are still experiencing pain in the first hip. Are you working with the physical therapist?

Thank you do much! Have been talking to Mayo in Rochester to see if I qualify for a trial
Otherwise msy have to pay out of pocket but if it helps pain will be worth it

I have always had hip pain and burning. I am ready to ditch the gabapentin as it is messing up my head and doing little for the pain. Seeing the GP on Tuesday. Will ask for a referral. I like tramacet but I may have trouble getting more and getting addicted. I heard that Celebrex is worth trying.
Anyone have suggestions ?

I have been taking gabapentn for nerve damage in my right leg after back surgery last November. It is helping. However now I have a fractured bone in my pelvis from osteoporosis. Could the gabapentin weakened my bones more?

Is there a "Pain Clinic" in your area or a Neurologist who treats pain? A certified Pain Dr. will help you transition from medications slowly.....and still have pain relief .

Will a pain clinic prescribe medical marijuana. I would like to try it instead of gabapentin. Nearest clinic from me is 500 miles.
