Reoccurring Constipation after Sex
I am 22 and have been having unprotected sex with my boyfriend for about a month now however, I do take my birth control (Lo Loestrin Fe) perfectly. I have been experiencing regular constipation, gassiness, abdominal cramps and a heavy sensation above my rectum for about a month now and often times it is most severe soon after having sex. I don't think that pregnancy is likely but I also have not had a period in over a year due to my birth control, so I wouldn't know if I've had a missed period. What could be causing this and should I be concerned? I have been reading around and have seen people mention the possibility of endometriosis (my mother has had a history of endometriosis) or the possibility of a tipped uterus. I have an appointment with my obgyn in about a month and a half and my insurance won't cover an earlier visit. Would it be ill-advised to wait this long to see a health professional?

@ellie2367 Welcome to Mayo Connect! I'm sorry to hear of your problem with constipation. Might I suggest that you give your doctor's office a call and explain the problem to them? Sometimes insurance companies will only cover yearly exams with a GYN however, it you are having a specific health problem they might treat an office visit differently. You might want to check with your doctor's office about your symptoms and explain the insurance problem and see what they suggest. Please, please take care of yourself.
Dear Ellie hello. Would you please help me with the problem that i share with you? Each time i am stimulated only in the vagina without even getting a penetration (for instance after a light masturbation without anal stimulation) i get the heavy sensation and pulses down the rectum which is followed by a two or three day hemoroid .i am so nervous n soooooo sad. I am 38 female from iran and i surfed the web only to reach your post at mayoclinic page. Even when I think of the guy whom i love, this heavy burning sensation which may well lead to a two day constipation pops up. I am so sad. Is that endometriosis? 😢 love, Sarah
Sarah A little understood conceot is hydration. Hemorroid frequently are the problem if not holding fluid or not getting fluid. One health home way is as follows. Get a small jar and pour in some crystals of Himalayan Pink Salt. Add warer. There should be some undesolved salt. Start with 1 teaspoon of salt water to a warm glass of water in the morning. Repeat in two days with i table spoon to the water. If diarrhea comes, cut back to 1 teaspoon per glass every other day. You will quit peeing so much but the hydration will stop hemorrhoids. You may wish to talk to your Physician first. For example, some people on high blood pressure medicine would not want to9 do this. It also diminishes the frequent need for stool softeners
Dear Bill thanks! Your reply sounds pretty helpful. However, I get trapped by the problem, constipation, only after masturb....ing!
Hi,
The only correct answer to you problem is to see your doctor, and if necessary a visit to a gastroenterologist.home remedies are not always the answer.
You may have an underlying condition that needs professional attention.
Good luck
Hello @sarahandy and welcome to Mayo Connect,
As you probably know, we at Connect, are not medical professionals but are patients like yourself who offer encouragement and suggestions for seeking help from the medical professionals.
I'm in agreement with @funcountess that you need to consult with a gynecologist and perhaps have a pelvic ultrasound. Have you addressed it with a gynecologist yet? Have you had a pelvic ultrasound?
I have never heard of hemorroids having anything to do with dehydration. They usually occur after giving birth or when you are very constipated... I would suggest contacting a gastroenterologist...
Google hemorroids and dehydration(lack of fluid and fiber in diet)
hi @jkaplan3606, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I agree with your suggestion that @sarahandy consult with a specialist.
Stools passing by internal or external hemorrhoids can cause pain and bleeding. Thus fiber and staying well hydrated will keep stools soft and easier to pass, reducing hemorrhoid flare-ups.
@bill54321 Epsom salts can soothe in a sitz bath, but I haven't found a reputable source that demonstrates the benefits of drinking Himalayan salt dissolved in water. Bill can you provide a link to a study or evidence regarding this home remedy?
