Morning depression
Is there a thing called morning depression? If so, what does everyone do for it. I do take celexa but still have morning depression and anxiety.

I have commented elsewhere on this form about the morning anxiety/ depression that has haunted me every morning for over three years. It starts even before I am fully awake, around 5. Usually disappates as the day goes on, but waking every day with such a sense of despair is crippling. My therapist and a few psychiatrists haven't helped.
I’m the same way! Exactly.
You may want to Google diurnal mood variation. That is the diagnosis from my psychiatrist. I have morning depression and anxiety. In fact, it lasts all day and doesn’t subside until the evening.
Twinnotes,
I also have severe depression as soon as I wake up, about 5 am.
I take one Lorazipam which holds me over till about 4:30 pm.
Then I take the last pill at bedtime.
I also take 2 Zoloft mornings.
My doctor doesn't react much when I tell him about my morning depression.
Try that.
Good luck
Seriously, look up Dr Robin Berzin. She had a talk with Dr Carolyn Leaf on Dr Leafs podcast Cleaning up Your Mental Mess. It s the May 30th podcast.
This could all be gut issues. And Im guessing we have Sympathetic Dominance along with it.
Vagus nerve exercises can help.
I, too, cry in the AM. And this gut issue makes sense. If youve had any trauma in the past year: a death, break up, stress, betrayal, loss of job, concern or caring for a child or a parent who needs you, please listen to her.
Im in the process of trying to find an experienced gut doctor who is familiar with the balance of probiotics, prebiotics, enzymes, etc.
Im looking to get tested.
Look for the book, The Body Keeps the Score.
So much goes on in our body while we sleep. But whats not going on might be your problem. Sleep is the time for the body to repair.
If you feel youre in fight or flight most of the time, its most likely SD. Sympathetic Dominance. Some say Post Traumatic Stress, but im not convinced they're one in the same.
The habitual morning crying is being perpetrated by something because it WEARS off later in the day. ( not always, but more times than not) And it might be that you're distracted, but who knows. If it happens every morning, your body is speaking to you. Find the person whos experienced to know what your gut is saying.
Get your gut checked. Watch what youre eating and pay attention to what youre not eating.
Blessings to you all. Fight the good fight of Faith!
Report here please if youve found a solution or someone who knows.
Thanks.
I also have a terrible feeling around the same time as everyone else, around 4-5 am., I take an Ativan 0.5 mg. and it goes away gradually, my doctor thinks it’s the Ativan because I take it in the early morning and then at bedtime so he feels I’m experiencing withdrawal. I can’t dismiss this entirely but it seems rather coincidental that so many of us have this problem at the same time and I didn’t read that anyone else is taking this medication. I am curious about the possibility that it’s gut related so I will look into this.
Hello Frouke,
I only take 1 in the am by 8-8:30 am.
I do not take one at night. So I cant say if its withdrawal.
However, to all here, please consider having your estrogen and progesterone levels tested. You may have excess estrogen. That can cause one to cry.
I have had breast cancer. 10 years out in clinical remission. An endoscopy revealed my bc came back in my gut lining. Yes! And i KNOW it was stress.
Its partially SD, sympathetic dominance. And its definitely my gut.
You might try a new diet. Seriously, to see if what youre feeding your gut likes the new foods.
Try green juices. Whole foods makes them. Get the small size first.
Try the Green Goddess and the Apple snap. I take out the lemon and ginger cuz its too much for me. I can add my own. If you have Costco, get the organic carrot juice in the fridge section.. its 3 bottles. May want to try the Dragonfruit juice, too. Its on sale right now.
Eat just salads for 5 days and a bit of Bubbies plain sauerkraut in the deli section. Fermented foods are great for your stomach. Just 2-3 table spoons once or twice a day. You can put it on your salad.
Give this a try for a week or 2 and see if your body is happy.
Also start walking and/or get a rebounder. Jump with tears if you have to 😂
Start reading a Psalm in the am and pm. Let them be the first and last things you do in your day.
Also, get a journal and start at blessing book. Before youre too tired for bed, take 15 minutes and write out the blessings you were given that day; a friendly smile, a kind word, etc… whatever youre thankful for.
Youll be surprised how this calms you down and brings you joy.
This is a fierce battle. I dont even KNOW why the tears come.. and if I have to THINK about it, i know its in my mind first!
Thats when I turn i turn the tears over to God and do what I need to do even if im crying.
Dont let the tears DRIVE YOUR LIFE. You move WITH them. Dont let them capture you useless.
Try your best and document whats going on to see if you have a pattern.
Thank you for taking the time to post! I will definitely try some of these. I read a devotion and Bible morning and evening. I may try Psalms. Start a blessing book. I will have to try some of these juices, too. 🩷
Youre on your way with Gods Guidance, love and peace.
