Lupron treatment and Fatigue...

Posted by ronc320403 @ronc320403, Jan 3 12:11pm

I am having to decide about Lupron dosages. I can either got monthly or go quarterly. I would get a 3 month dose, in 90 days check the PSA.

I am a care giver for my wife, is the Lupron going to knock me down so I will not be able to tend to our needs, such as meal, laundry and doing the shopping?

I’ve been on Lupron for almost two years now. Thankfully I just had my last four month shot and I’m hopeful that I will get some relief soon. The side effects are problematic and that includes fatigue, loss of strength and stamina, depression and lack of motivation just to name a few. I’m a full time self employed farmer and rancher and it’s been a real struggle to keep my operation going. I’ve suffered financial losses as a result of my inability to keep up. But I am also dealing with other health issues that are far worse than the prostate cancer. I mostly work alone every day with some occasional part time help. It helps to get adequate sleep at night and I take breaks throughout the day, especially during the cold weather and blizzard conditions we have been getting lately. I can certainly sympathize with anyone who is getting Lupron or other similar hormone treatments!

I had the 6 month injection of Lupron 6/30/23 and side effects are miserable. Hot flashes suck, stomach issues, difficult breathing(shortness of breath) are a few of the side effects. I followed the shot with 39 EBRT which just ended a few months ago. This road is not for the faint of heart that’s for sure. One thing that is so frustrating to me who was in great athletic shape for a guy 70 years old is the non responsiveness of your cancer team from the radiation oncologist to the PCP, and somewhat the urologist. I have been sick with stomach issues since the EBRT started having passed out 2 times now, bloated stomach where I look like a 9 month pregnant woman, hot flashes and little appetite. Everyone responds differently from the ADT shot and radiation treatments. I’m not upset with any of my doctors I just want to start feeling better.
Wish all you guys the best, and for you that say that during radiation you were told you needed to drink more water, NEVER guys did I get told that! You obviously weren’t drinking that much water. I know, during my 39 EBRT I figured it out!

SAME THING. Little interest when reaching out to Oncologist or Urologist!
One comment might be, "That is odd, I've had few if any report those issues".
AND you feel like you are pestering them.

I'm just about to start. Find out when in about 30 minutes. If we were neighbors, be glad to make you a half a hand as I'm retired. Really on my best day probably wouldn't make that half. You're in a tough spot, sure makes it hard for me to complain. God bless!

I’m on Lupron every 6 months along with prednisone daily. After my first injection 6 months ago I starting having hot flashes but not really any other side effects. I had my second Lupron injection 1 month ago. Still having hot flashes but now my legs are extremely weak. I can barely walk for 10 minutes and I start sweating.
Anyone else have these extreme fatigue issues?
Thanks

Lupron can really knock us for a loop!
Your side effects are similar to mine. I've really felt the fatigue issues and fight them with frequent breaks, vitamin b-12 complex (I had to titrate this because a little too much gave me the shakes). When working I use a paper towel or wash cloth inside my hat to soak up the sweat - change it often. And I"m not reluctant to ask for help! I"m now off the shots for about 9 months. Everything is coming back but seems soooo slowly. The big deal is my cancer is put to sleep.
So keep fighting every way you can - good diet, exercise as tolerated, reach out to friends for joy, pester your doctors for help, stay tuned here.
May your combined struggle give you blessed relief from a much worse fate.

Thank you, appreciate the response. I’ve been taking the B-12 too but I have ‘Essential Tremors’ so don’t know whether it’s the B-12 or the other so I just don’t worry about it.
I just remind myself often of how fortunate I am and have been all my life. I do try to be positive.
Take care and let’s enjoy what we have.

On three month regiment, getting fourth shot next month, for me it’s was hot flashes and fatigue, but nothing to stop you from doing daily chores. I mid afternoon nap does wonders! Good Luck stay strong

I just had my third one month Lupron shot. Month at a time is my election, not my doctors. Also continuing on Casodex. My worst issues are the hot flashes, fatigue, and mood swings. My fatigue hits me generally about 2-3 o’clock in the afternoon and wipes me out for maybe an hour, sometimes longer. My arms and legs just totally become rubbery and my energy just zaps. I don’t sleep well at night, and feel like I’m laying in a bed full of moisture because I sweat so much. Lupron is a horrible experience, but I will give every effort to continue it only because my wife and my urologist (who is a long time personal friend) want me to. Otherwise, I would have stopped this after month #1. Best of luck to all.

Surgery & radiation 20 years ago.
I have been on Lupron / Eligard intermittently for 13 years (gained 30+ pounds) and take Primidone 250 and Propanol 160 for Essential Tremor.
When doing anything that requires the least bit of exertion my body is quickly fatigued particularly hands and arm. I have joined a gym and am going to attempt to exercise.
I am grateful to the Lord as I was able to raise my family and am now on BONUS TIME !

I just can’t imagine all that time on Lipton but know if that’s what it takes, that’s what it takes. Sort of fits with my life’s code; It is what it is, deal with it! My deceased wife of over 60 years added to that, do it with grace and good humor. She did right up to the end and I am trying to live up to her standard.
I’m taking Clopidogrel for my tremors and they help. Will discuss your meds with my doctor too.
God speed and enjoy life!
