Body vibrations when falling asleep or waking?
After many google searches for the reason I feel vibration in my head, shoulder and arm just before falling asleep and waking, I found nothing that satisfactorily explained it. Of course anxiety seems to be a common explanation but there was nothing specific enough to help me. I am currently reading Incognito by David Eagleman. It discusses the functioning of the brain as an organ. This morning, going through my routine to get ready for work, I thought of a way to understand the vibrations. Similar to the hypnic jerks we experience occasionally just before we fall asleep, I think the vibrations are intended to arouse me to stay vigilant. Which is the fight or flight mechanism in action. So there is the anxiety connection. Originating in the amygdala. I was thinking Parkinson's or MS but my symptoms don't indicate those conditions, thankfully. It seems counterintuitive to be anxious and sleeping at the same time but the brain can do that. The cerebral cortex sleeps but the life support systems of the brain must stay online, obviously. If you thought you were in danger, sleeping would put you at risk but at some point sleep becomes absolutely necessary. I think the vibrations I have been experiencing are caused by my sympathetic nervous system and not a neurologic disease. Thankfully !

I get these hypnic Jerks trying to sleep. I read that stress or insomnia cause it. I am having terrible time trying sleep. I have had chronic insomnia for that last year and half.
It's starting to scare me that it's not going away. As of now I am taking 12.5 seraqual to help me get some sleep. Have tried natural methods that do not work. Very frustrated!!
I don’t believe this apply after reading website.
Due to the remedies mentioned, some for over 5 years of taking for example magnesium just to name one. My Experience of vibrating since fall 2011
Magnetic Field has always played a part due old wiring methods in building structure. WiFi and other wireless are not alone. Read up on BUILDING BIOLOGY!
I also get those and they’re kind of scary but I know they’re very common. Insomnia sucks. I take Ambien and that’s the only only thing that will put me to sleep.

I experienced that as 'being on sentinel' I found when I was living alone with my small child that I was vigilant as I slept, once I moved into a household with another adult I was more relaxed in my sleep and no longer 'on sentinel'.
Has anyone found a what’s causing this yet? Mine is at the base of my skull and only happens when waking up as well. Best described as buzzing or vibrating.
I have not had Covid but have had Covid vaccinations. I have been on Temazepam for sleep for at least 20 years and wondered if it was the sleeping pill. I get vibrations in the stomach area, mainly. As others mtion, it's very difficult to explain Of course, I can't sleep when I have the vibrations and then I am also dealing with the Temazepam. The "vibrations" are very troublesome and I move from one bed to another to see if they can be alleviated but no luck. I take an aspirin for the heck of it because I don't know what else to do. I am awake most of the night and extremely exhausted.
I'm "afraid" to take a sleeping pill now, thinking that might be causing the tremors but if I don't take it, I'lldefintely not sleep. Doctors don't really know that much about sleep problems other than to have you take a sleep study to see if you have restless legs or apnea. I have neither.
I have been up since 3:00 a.m. searching the internet to see what i can find about this condition. Good luck to all of you.
While I am certainly not a physician (not that they know anyway) I would suspect your body vibrations may indeed have something to do with the Temazepam you have been taking for years. It's meant for short term use and is in the Benzo class which in my opinion can be dangerous drugs for ones overall health. I was on a Benzo (klonopin) for only 7 months and it messed up my central nervous system big time. Most of the weird stuff it was creating have disappeared other than the nightly body vibrations which still linger slightly after being off the drug for 18 months. It is called protracted withdrawal syndrome as is a real thing although docs don't get it. Although you are still taking the drug it may have indeed impacted your CNS causing your issues but thats just a guess. Best to you.
I'm actually afraid, now, to take Temazepam because of the excessive frightening dreams, waking up at all hours of the night and then trying to fall asleep. I've been on it for so long. I was given Dalmane along with Elavil(both strong drugs) years ago. The pharmacy misunderstood the doctor and gave me Melloril (psychiatric drug) The internal tremors are rather new to me. I am unable to fall asleep without a sleeping pill and would be awake the entire night, so I'm in a difficult place.
I'd like to have a sleep study done while I TAKE the Temazepam so they can see what it does to my brain - but that won't happen. Sleep labs just look for RL or apnea.
I am making an appointment to see a sleep medicine doctor who helped my son. I just need someone to listen to me -- to understand. The doctor who fills my prescription has never met me and I have never met her. My former doctor left the area.
Thanks for your reply to me. You know what I have been going through. Few people know.
Take care, Benzo Buddy.
