Post Covid sweating: Is this common for others too?

Posted by dr4bama @dr4bama, Jul 14, 2022

I am experiencing profuse sweating off during the day and nightly. Is this common post Covid?

This is me. I can't take a shower without dreading the sweat. If I walk to the other room and back, I can't breath and I'm pouring sweat.

I also have been perspiring profusely. I perspire even if I am just sitting, and if there is any exertion, I am then soaking wet. My hands also tremble. I have just started with herbs. Since there is nothing known to cure this from covid, I am being treated for viral infections such as Epstein Barr. It takes a while as its three weeks on one, then another three weeks on another, blood test and finally three weeks on another. I will update. This is thru a functional medicine doctor who is also a regular MD--not someone who is adding this to his current practice--whatever that may be.

I have been just about everywhere, including the Mayo Clinic. It's a mystery, but it has been a while ago, so maybe now they have answers. Let me know what you find out PLEASE.

Hi @dr4bama - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.

Sweating does seem to be a pretty common side effect of COVID-19, unfortunately. I know it can get very uncomfortable throughout the day!
Others have discussed ongoing fevers with sweating as a side effect on this discussion post, you may find it helpful to read through:
- Fevers weeks after COVID: Is this common with long COVID? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/fevers-weeks-after-covid/

Have you continued to have a fever at all in your recovery? Have any other symptoms continued?

I had covid-19 only 4 weeks ago in early Sept. 2024. Since I have recovered, I still sweat profusely whenever I exert myself a bit. My hair gets soaking wet, I feel nauseous, dizzy, weak and need to sit down for fear of fainting. I do not have a fever. I may use 3 or 4 tissues just to absorb some of the sweat as it pours down my face and wets my glasses. Will this ease up and go away. If I do a liver cleanse will that help?

Hello,
I have posed before about the sweating, but am now seeing more people with the same condition. Mine did not start right after my bout with covid, and unfortunately I did not document all of the issues that have arisen since then.
Having seen a holistic doctor, some of the symptoms have gone away, but the sweating persists. I tried hormone therapy, and since I had none when tested, I was hopeful the sweating would end. But no, it's still here.
I live in Florida, so I spend most of my time indoors. but even then, doing any home activity brings the water flowing. I take antidepressants and this has controlled the hot flashes to a great extent, but not the sweating. I keep hoping this will go away in time.

I did a medical grade ionic foot soak yesterday for it. The water was the blackest it has ever been after this use, and I have been doing them since 2021. Later in the day, I felt cold to my bones and could not warm up, so made some cinnamon tea with lemon and honey. It did the trick. I have an appt. the end of this month to see a naturopathic doctor who may have a homeopathic or herbal remedy for it. I can do kinaesiolgy testing on the options. Thank you for the name dysautonomia.

I had somewhat of a severe case of Covid, in the hospital for three weeks. I never had a fever, but three months after hospitalization I was feeling so bad that I was back in the hospital. Test for Covid was negative, still no fever. Because Covid can affect so many of our organs I have been seeing a pulmonary doctor because of the breathlessness I had, a cardiologist, just checking things out, and a functional medicine doctor. The sweating is getting better as well, but I am on two antidepressants that control it.

I am having significant sweating issues. How did you determine that anti depressants helped?

Do you mind saying which ones?
