I didn't realize people can die of apnea. Sleep deprivation?
Sleep apnea is a factor in a number of diseases, one being heart disease. I remember that there's a long list of problems caused by sleep apnea.
@hosta, The first month I had a CPAP, I averaged over 12 hours of sleep every day. It took awhile to catch up after being sleep deprived for so long. I'm so sorry that you lost your son. Do you know what the apnea did to cause his death? (If you don't want to talk about it, don't feel obligated to do so.) I believe that for me, depression was exacerbated by sleep deprivation caused by sleep apnea. Getting caught up on sleep helped my depression for awhile.
@bob270 untreated sleep apnea can result in very serious side effects and yes even death.

I installed the app Dream Mapper on my smartphone. One of the features it has is leakage percentage. It is normal to have air blowing out, as that's the way they are made. The app says mask fit 100%. A lot of times I think the mask leaks but I check the app every day and it gives me peace of mind that it hasn't actually leaked. My mask is Phillips. Hope this helps you.
My mask is called Dream Wear.
what type of machine do u have I had a cpap but it didn't keep my numbers doc wouldn't listen so switched docs he put me on a aapap an it works better I hate using it though do to the fact u have to wear something on your face all I'm in the process of getting surgery in a couple of months I hope it helps so I can get off the machine
I use a cushion pillow which fits under the nose only. I think it is the most comfortable of all the choices. I'm able to get through most of the night. It still takes a bit of getting used to. Nothing is 100% comfortable but the alternative of having apneas is less desirable.
What kind of surgery are you having? Is it to correct a sleeping problem?
I use a REsmed Auto system one. I have been told that surgey is very painfull and that sometimes it doesnt work. My family Doctor at Mayo Clinic told me that He would not suggest I had surgery. I am convinced of the CPAP because it has worked very well for me. And my Doctor told me if I didnt use it I could die. Take care hope everything works for you Flor
Thanks. Me too!
