Grover's Disease: What works to help find relief?
I have been diagnosed with Grover's disease under my breasts. I had a biopsy for diagnosis. Tried topical ointment with no really good results. Any ideas?

Selenium Sulfide?
I found Selenium Sulfide in https://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/grovers-disease/
"Topical treatment with selenium sulfide has been effective in clearing up the lesions on some patients."
There are several at home test kits and since I haven't solved my gut issues nor my Grover's Disease I'm reluctant to recommend any but I will offer some guidance.
The Great Plains Laboratory offers a very thorough comprehensive stool analysis and test for parasites. Several sites let you order this test and I have used mymedlab.com to order mine. The results come with some feedback on how to treat any anomalies although I have found it best to work with a professional when interpreting results.
Viome offers another thorough gut microbiome analysis and they include a list of foods that should be eaten or avoided based on your microbiome. This was helpful for me personally as it forced me to experiment with new foods which are now part of my diet.
I have taken an at-home blood test to determine food allergies but the test is based on IgG response and the results were a bit contradictory to my own experience.
Thank you for your detailed response about home test kits.
I feel I need to try cilantro. I’ve been taking cilantro capsules but my itchy lesions are back with a vengeance. I’m beside myself. Still can’t discern if they are flea bites or grovers. Can grovers erupt on legs, scalp, arms as well as usual torso? Maybe time to go back to derm.
I know of no one that the capsules helped, so try fresh or frozen now. Location of symptoms- I have heard of symptom's of GD in areas other then the torso, but just a few times in my years of blogging on this issue.
Before you go to your derm, which you should do regularly, go to dermnetnz.org, the New Zealand Derm site, it's the best I have found with a massive collection of photos of patients of different skin diseases, lots of eczema types with photos and GD has a good collection. Look at the photos and compare to your outbreak. Please refresh our memories- do you also have Allergic Contact Dermatitis, ACD (eczema and dermatitis are synonymous)? I have both GD and ACD and with ACD rashes could be anyplace on the body.
Many put stock into the GD biopsy for diagnosis. Yet mine was negative. The biopsy only works when the outbreak is in the active stage. My rashes were scabbed and old when my biopsy was taken. My old scabs could hang on for over 6 months or longer, some for a year after they erupted and if scratched off they were not healed and would simply scab over again.
You are one smart, tough woman.
With pain and misery we can either give up or step up to the challenge. All of us on this site are taking the initiative and have realized we have to participate in finding relief as medical science has no black and white answers or treatments. Eczema is a complex disease because of the types and the variation in the types. The different triggers and causes of the same disease can be unknown or even if known very confusing.
On this site we are trying to learn by sharing and haven't given up and accepted our suffering as inevitable. We are no longer the typical eczema patient relying on doctors to keep prescribing us oral, topical or injectable steroid which in many cases can give temporary relief and in the long run cause many major negative side effects.
Thanks so much for all this helpful information. I will check the New Zealand site and compare photos to my symptoms.
I had a biopsy a year ago from lesion on stomach that confirmed GD diagnosis. I know I have latex allergies and allergic to detergents but no other official diagnosis. Many fabrics irritate me especially underwire bras. I suspect my leg bumps could be flea related as I have cats although had apartment treated professionally and cats treated yet they are persistent pests.
Again appreciate all your insight.
Would you share your GD cycle pattern if you have one? It is interesting to compare what I dealt with compared to others and I'm sure others would be interested.
1st outbreak of GD- 1 year and the most severe
subsequent outbreaks for 4 years 6 months of activity and 6 months of dormancy and although miserable, the misery index was lower then with the first outbreak.
Now free of GD for almost 2 years due to fresh or frozen cilantro
With my ACD I have multiple fabric allergies which are related to rubber. You know you react to latex, an element in rubber, but there are many other rubber related allergens. I am not allergic to latex but to Mercaptobenzothiazole, MBT, an element in rubber used to synthesize materials like spandex, elastic, nylon, poly/cotton, rayon and of course pure rubber contains it although that is not a synthesized material. Safe fabrics for me are not a blend, like 100% cotton, 100% polyester, silk, bamboo and such. Even leather works for me because I am not allergic to tanning ingredients like formaldehyde.
I do wonder if your other locations with eczema symptom's is related to ACD. My 5 Day Extended Patch Test identified my allergens.
