COPD with cronic bronchitis

Hello Grandma Ha- I have COPD too. I have emphysema and had chronic bronchitis.
I went for a clinical trial for the bronchitis at Temple Hospital in Philadelphia. It was a one year study using the RheOx treatment for bronchitis. It uses a thermal wand to zap the mucus plugs in the lungs & 1 year later I found out I’d gotten the real treatment and the bronchitis is gone. Will it stay gone - hopefully yes - but my lungs sound great according to both Temple & my own awesome pulmonologist. I don’t know if trials are ongoing but I’m glad I did it and will continue researching clinical trials for COPD.

Here are also some other trials for bronchitis. This is in Europe but I do know Temple was also trialing the liquid nitrogen.

The University Medical Center where I live just completed the clinic trial for RheOx and awaiting the data results. I was not a candidate for the clinical trial as I had valve insertion. Am anxiously awaiting the results as the bronchitis renders me short of breath. The congestion is produced as quickly as I rid of it!

Most certainly speak to your pulmonologist. I hope they are as supportive and as caring as mine. She’s the one who suggested Temple to me for clinical trials.
And kdalda75 is correct you cannot have any inserts in your body like inspire, pacemaker I assume or valves. I don’t recall the ages the trial was limited to but I was 73 when I had it done. The nice thing was if I hadn’t gotten the actual treatment at the end of the trial I would’ve gotten it.

There have been times that researchers and the powers that be have allowed a procedure on a "compassionate basis." Worth a try. Personally. I don't understand the age limitations for offering a patient relief, less suffering and pain and a better quality of care. Does that mean that because you are 88 you don't deserve that.....only deserved it at 73. You didn't have this problem at 73 albeit!

Gramma Ha, also speak to your pulmo about a nebulizer using .07 saline solution for the bronchitis. Prior to RheOx my pulmo said by all means try it. It helped bring up the mucous. Just be sure to put your phone in a ziplock if you’re using it while you nebulize. Saline can destroy electronics.
It is otc but it might be covered by Part B Medicare - Walgreens does part B & probably CVS.
