Cough after covid/mild pneumonia
I was positive for covid on Aug. 30 and on Sept 5 l was told l have mild pneumonia. If anyone has had this my question is how long does this last. I still have cough which is improving but l have a sore chest when trying to take a deep breath. I continously take my oxygen level which l know isn't good by my anxiety which has gotten worse with this gets the best of me. My levels have been anywhere between 92 and 95. Prior to getting covid l was diagnosed through a endoscopy with non erosive gastritis so needless to say it hasn't been easy. I understand covid can play with your stomach too. Any help in answering my question is much appreciated. I am a 69 year old that is going crazy thinking about this. Thank you in advance.

Hi Cookiepic,
I have had Covid 5 or 6 times. First in 5/2020. Cough was so bad I broke a rib and it turned into pneumonia. Took about 3 months to get past that then got it again 2/21. This was super bad and breathing was tuff for months and months. Could only walk like 5 feet and stop. Got pneumonia again. Now my breathing bothers me with any amount of exercise like walking. Blue about 30 other issues. Yours might be milder. A Dr would have a better idea. Best to see pulmonologist or Long Covid Dr. hope that helps some.
Thank you for answering my post. I am going to go get a recheck on my lungs Wed. I need to put my mind at rest. I would imagine you had to get a recheck with xray too. They told me after 6 weeks to get it.
Oh I’ve had many rechecks. CTs and MRIs. I have full blown severe Long Covid. PEM badly. Edema full body. Have several Specialists and still trying to find other issues I have going on related to LC. Best of luck. I am sure it scary. Just keep following up if you even have slight issues.
It took me 3 months to get better when I had double pneumonia back in 2022 from COVID. Praying for you.
Thank you for answering my post. If l may ask in the 3 months did you still have the cough and chest discomfort and some fatigue?
cookiepie, You may ask me anything. I still had shortness of breath, dry cough, chest discomfort and fatigue. COVID pneumonia is brutal.
My primary care group told me not to be surprised at all of the symptoms you mentioned....I had them all. It takes time to heal from COVID pneumonia.
Bless you and praying for you.
I have had a cough since covid in late 2020. I went to an allergist due to constant sinus and ear infections since covid. He witnessed my cough, clearing my throat, and asked questions. I told him I went to an ENT several times, but he never scoped my sinus and throat. He referred me to another ENT with IU Medical. She asked about my cough. What triggered it, what helped, does my voice change. After performing a scope procedure, she showed me pictures of my vocal cords. One was shorter and inflamed. She believed my severe GERD, Hiatal Hernia, infections, and coughing for over 3 years, that it affected my right vocal cord. Which is where I feel like something is caught in my throat.
I had been one both medications in the past, but separately. She suggested I take them together and slowly progress to the highest dose until she saw me 6 weeks later. My cough has improved greatly. My next scoped showed the vocal cord recovering and we began reducing the meds. I hope this will help you in areas to look.
Sorry to hear all you've been going through but glad you found the problem. My cough thank God is getting better. I just have a little discomfort when l breath deep and a little in my upper back. I had to wait 6 weeks since getting covid/pneumonia to get a recheck xray which is this week. Thank you for replying to my post and hope things continue to go in the right direction for you.
Yeah. The pneumonia thing with Covid is scary. I still have SOB and I’m 4 years past my original 1st Covid. The 2nd Covid was the doozy on my lungs. Still only at about 40%. Walking I have to sit after like 30/40 feet. Pain and SOB. MY OXYGEN stays between 94/96. When SOB IVE seen it drop to 88/89. When I sleep, it dropped to 47 or 57. They sent me oxygen for sleeping. (I will start it this week. ) it’s sitting here but I have a halter monitor I want to start first.
