Has anyone with long covid had surgery?

I was rooting through some research on patients with long covid. Some of the studies suggested that having surgery can affect symptoms particularly cognitive ones.

I had Covid 7 months after I had 18” of my colon removed due to severe diverticulitis. That was a 3 hour surgery and I didn’t have any brain fog symptoms until after I had Covid. I also lost my taste and smell and it’s still not back.

I think they are 2 separate issues.

I am talking about if anyone with long covid had surgery for something like removing a gallbladder and later felt his/her symptoms were worse or
they increased.

I have had long Covid since 2020. Last year I had 3 surgeries within 5 months - 2 with sedation and one with general anesthesia. It definitely affected my cognition. I had increased brain fog, trouble with word finding and difficulty putting sentences together, in general more confusion. My long Covid nurse practitioner assured me that this was a normal reaction after having sedation and anesthesia. It took about 3 months after the last surgery to improve back to where I was cognitively before the surgeries.

This is the first time that I saw a connection between long covid and patients having a procedure done. I will say that this is the only online research where I saw a connection between long covid and the ramifications of
surgery.

A few months ago, about two years into bad long Covid, I needed two disks removed and replaced in my neck. According to all data, it well. These days, it’s an outpatient procedure to pull the disks out from the front and insert replacement devices.

I think the long Covid only played in since I would forget how much I was supposed to not move my head. Do I wore the collar brace at times to be safe. The pre surgery blood tests were pretty basic for me to qualify.

Yes, I have had an EGD. They put you to sleep with anesthesia. Had that in September.

Not too long after my gallbladder removal surgery, my MCAS, which I had not known I’d had, went thru the roof! I was having flue-like reactions to meds, supplements and foods that I used to able to tolerate. Not anymore. My Long Covid NP, who I’ve just started with said that we have to get the mast cell under control before we address the other issues.
