mucus cough versus hack
I am new to this. I likely have chronic Bronchitis. I have been to a lung specialist with xray and cat scan. I have mucus but to me it feels more in my throat than my lungs it is very difficult if not impossible to get out. I don't perceive any shortness of breath and usually my oxygen saturation is in the 97 region. I don't really feel like I'm coughing actually I can't even get a deep lung cough like if I had the flu. It's more of a hack is this typical? It's driving me crazy and I fear I'm just getting started. I've been using 2 inhalers and mucolytics for about 3 weeks. They don't seem to help. My first post. Thanks

Welcome fellow sojourner to our strange new world!
You are not alone in the information overload of this new diagnosis.
Getting on track with your personal regime is paramount.
To do that, I would suggest you put this question to your specialist, or member of your medical team.
There are ways to help in your coughing and clearance routine; such as nebulizer, or saline, and especially getting instruction on 'how to cough'. With good instruction, you will soon be an expert yourself.. it is all do-able!
I had great improvement when I switched to my nebulizer.
The best suggestion for someone who is just 'beginning', is to ask your doctors these very important questions. They would be pleased to direct you to personel ( maybe physio), or videos ( they will have suggestions), or equipment, medications, etc that you will find helpful. It would be the start of forming your relationship with your 'medical crew'.
Please don't give up! These are important issues to get understood, right from the beginning!
Let us know how you get on.
All the best!
Phephe,
You might want to check out an answer that 'Volunteer, Sue', has just written in the Bronchiactesis group.
She has posted a video on 'Lung Clearance', by a Dr McShane, which may be helpful to you.
If you are in the U.S , may you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Do you find its at its worst in the mornings?
Your symptoms sound like mine They have been treating me for Asthma. I wake up and stsrted getting congested it feels like it's in the throat not the lungs. It started after aa new landlord started doing a lot of demo and renovation in my.building we were breathing a lot if junk in plaster dust and God knows what else. Been like this 6 years with .no real answers . The one thing that helps is a nebulizer in the morning it seem to.help loosen all that stuff in the.throat . I also.found eating a sugar free ice pop or two in the mornings after the nebulizer helps . I experimented around to.see what gave me relief what the docs were giving me wasnt helpping .after a year I found this combo worked for me in the mornings . After i clear that initial stuff I seem ok the rest of the day .
Do you find yourself clearing your throat a lot in the mornings ?
Yes, once I drink my coffee it is better for a while, then through the day, I seem always trying to clear my throat, I just learned to live with it. love to hear others have have resolved this problem
