Probably tinnitus. It may be temporary. For many of us it is not temporary but fluctuates and we have to get used to is. There is ongoing research but for now people use white noise, hearing aides and CBT as I remember. I have it too!

I’m 70 and have had tinnitus since my 40’s. It comes and goes. Sometimes it’s a hissing other times it sounds like crickets. Sometimes it’s both other times. Stress definitely does make it worse though. Last year I got hearing aids as I have mild to moderate hearing deficit.

thanks for the reply, yes I get the cricket thing, also i'm sure age has alot to contribute.
I'm going to look into a natural approach, as well.

@sunny1971 what do you mean by a natural approach? I am not aware of any pharmaceutical approach!

There is an excellent tinnitus forum online by the way, though it tends toward the negative.

I have noise for many years. I just had spinal neck surgery and the noise level has dropped many octave's. It turned out that my c5,6,7 had no cushion between and the noise level was almost deafening. Now it is at a minor background noise. Sometimes totally disappears. Not saying this is the cure all. Didn't know that the surgery helped.

@pbeet interesting because my neuro suggested surgery for my neck and I thought the tinnitus issue was coming from the auditory nerve. It causes facial pain and numbness (trigeminal and occipital nerves). Maybe I should be less skeptical of my neuro's ideas on neck as a source of these problems. My tinnitus is loud right now and keeping me up!

As a tinnitus sufferer (mild), let me suggest an online event tomorrow sponsored by Tinnitus Talk, a useful group to explore. Check out

See you there!

I signed up a few days ago for then online event but caution folks to avoid some of the negative, desperate posts on the site. There are positive posts too. I have learned to be discerning in what I read about tinnitus!

I talked with a young man who lives next door yesterday and he has tinnitus from playing in a band. Several houses around us are doing work. The young guy likened it to WW II. This kind of thing- and leaf blowers ugh- can cause my tinnitus to get a lot worse.

Mine use to get so loud, that I would have to turn up the volume on the t..v. or if I was in a car and someone was speaking, I had a hard time listening to them. I am so sorry you are having this problem and I can sympathize. I cant say that its not the auditory nerve, I am sure the doctors have a better idea. I just wish, if they know its the auditory nerve then there should be a cure for it, even if it means surgery.
