Reclast after Forteo?
I have been injecting daily with Forteo for over a year, no problems, and after the end of next year my Doctor wants me to have one Reclast injection. Almost twenty years ago I took Fosomax for five years and had no issues. Why can not you take Fosomax instead of Reclast, which I am afraid of?

A tooth that has had a crown placed is more likely to require root canal at some point. Dental crowns are usually used to rebuild teeth that have experienced some type of significant structural damage. And as it happens, these same types of events can also insult or compromise the tooth’s nerve tissue and therefore create a need for root canal treatment too.
I did a combination of Forteo and Tymlos for a total of two years (I will finish my last shot in June). The plan my Endocrinologist has for me right now is to do the yearly infusion of Reclast in early August. I was disappointed when my bone density last week showed no improvement. My hip T score remained at -3.7. My scoliosis is too bad to get a reading on my spine :(. I know I should be grateful my numbers didn’t get worse & I haven’t had any breaks, but I am still disappointed. I am also nervous about Reclast! Any drug that is put in the body for a dosage of a whole year just concerns me.
Positive thoughts?
Attached are my test results.
I’ve been on Forteo since December 2023.
I am only able to tolerate Forteo every other day because of the many side effects.
Should I continue Forteo or instead take Reclast?

Hello @06111945cc, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Has Reclast been suggested as a next step to you?
Reclast was suggested as the next step for me after my 2 yr completion of Forteo/Tymlos. (Unfortunately I saw no improvement after this treatment) I decided that I didn’t want to put it into my body after doing some research. Just the idea of having a meditation inside me and no control if my body did not accept it, bothered me too much. So… after discussions with my Endocrinologist I am back on Risedronate weekly. I know it’s probably not the strongest or the best, but at least I feel in control. And, I don’t have the bloating that I had previously. I pray someday there will be a medication developed without all the side effects. And, one that actually works helps all of us.
Then each time you went back to Forteo did you need an additional dose of Reclast? I assume that Reclast was worth the risk of having to avoid any needed invasive dental procedures?
Thanks so much for this valuable information. Do you happen to know by now if the weekly Risedronate was effective in locking in the gains from Tymlos? And how long is your Risedronate treatment?
0611945cc,
I'd stay on Forteo. Your results after two years at every other day dose are terrific. (Better than mine at every day dose.) Not only that, but your bone markers are (what I consider) perfect for remodeled bone. I don't think we've seen the positive impact Forteo will have on your bones.
It's supposed to take you twice as long to catch up to me.
I've been dusted.
Is wheat germ still working.
Good Cheer.
I have a bone density scheduled in late April. I will find out what my numbers are and report back. It’s decision time again. I need to stop the risedronate and start on something stronger—I know that’s what I am going to be told. I am guessing it will be Evenity. I will check with my Cardiologist, too. I haven’t had a heart attack, I have other heart issues.
Like we all say, if there were just the perfect drug without all the side effects!
