Long covid rare symptoms
Hi, I'm new, so bear with me.
I tested positive for covid in 2020. Very atypical symptoms. No fever,
no cold or sore throat. I became very tired on my 10th day and i developed this incredible burning sensation in my mouth and up my nose. The skin on the outside of my nose and around my mouth was on fire! I have had three shots and developed severe muscle and joint pain that I didn't have with the active virus. That took about a year to finally go away. Since then, I went through "everything always smells like burnt onions, " to the rancid smell stage, and for the last 4 years, intermittent nasal, mouth and skin burning.
It will reappear without warning, stay for a few days or a few weeks. And it's always worse at night. I can't find any information about this "condition" anywhere. My husband is a pcp, and one of his partners referred me to an ENT. I've seen her twice and she has not heard of my particular post civic issues. I am beyond frustrated. Right now I'm taking Centrum silver power her recommendation. Can anyone relate??? Thank you!

How nice that you feel so secure. Yes, COVID continues to morph and is here to stay. My docs - all of them in different fields - have warned me that even with updated vaccinations, I must be masked and as careful as possible - age+other illnesses+LC they've said could be the end of me. Tho' pain on some days makes me wish it were "the end", I'm not ready to leave.
Of course, if your health is compromised. I'll continue to get flu shots, but I'm not getting any more covid vaccines. The muscle and joint pain after the shots, not covid, we're pretty bad. It took a year for that to subside.
Ironically, after finding this group, the burning in my nose and mouth have subsided to about 30%. If it doesn't get worse by the evening, this episode may be ending.
IF you change your mind, the Novavax COVID vaccine is great - the first one to which neither my husband or I had ANY reaction - no swelling, itching, redness. Others had recommended it and the pharmacist at the CVS offered it.
Which vaccines did you get before? I’ve only had Moderna.
Pfizer.
I too have had the same burning smell. I’ve had several times that comes and goes. I get a weird taste at the same time. I also have more of a pizza type burning feeling on tongue that comes and goes that started with last Covid in June 2024. Then a canker appeared that was big on the side of my tongue and it lasted over a month. I’ve had Covid 5-6 times, 1st April 2020. Then another Bad one March 2021. I have long Covid pretty bad. Fatigue, pain, nerve pain, joints, edema, HBP, racing heart, brain fog, chest pain etc… like 35 symptoms. Does anyone have the 200 symptoms actual list? Also, I have been to so many Drs. My Cardiologist finally said to me just today, he wants to try to find a way to admit me in EVMS medical school and have them keep me for a bit and work as a team to help me. He said the biggest problem is so many Drs that don’t really communicate and they each give meds for their specialties. I’m on 18 meds now. He is sending to a top Dr at EVMS and see what they can do. It’s a painful waiting game.
A team approach sounds awesome!
Oh my! That's a lot to bear everyday. But like you and many others here, feel that there's no real communication between f octors, the CDC and patients. I mentioned earlier that my husband is a primary care doctor and is very frustrating for him when patients have multiple long covid symptoms. He generally points them in the shedding of a heart healthy diet and ways to reduce inflammation in the body.... and treating their pre-covid illnesses and diseases. I will say this, though, an anti inflammatory diet has really helped. No red meat, no processed foods, limited alcohol, etc. I research all of that on my own. I do believe visiting holistic practioners can help, IN ADDITION TO your doctors. (I'm thinking about going to one nearby. I do go to a chiropractor occasionally. )
I believe that there are many paths to recovery. But I totally agree that it's frustrating mentally and physically to advocate for ourselves. I hope and pray you find relief!!! God bless you!
I had J&J (the one shot) initially and then Moderna for all the others. A good friend had Novavax the last few times and highly recommended it. I had read of its efficacy and when offered, I took it. The pharmacist (who I trust and where I've gotten all of the boosters) was in favor of it. I found this that might help you think more about it. https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/covid-19-vaccine-comparison
Really - not an ounce of reaction - and I realize each person has different reactions or none to any - as I had after the initial and subsequent boosters, the last right after they announced that those 65+ should.
Wishing you well.
I really hope that he does this. I just got off a video chat with my Long Covid Dr. she is great but again, they are just treating symptoms. When you get to where I am, with about 35 things going on, that’s a lot of meds. My cardiologist from yesterday just stated that my Cymbalta and Tramadol can have bad interactions. Also, the other 17 meds can have 69 other reactions, not life threatening but reactions. Some of the reactions are things I’m fighting to stop. He said if I can get into a hospital study, taking me of ALL MEDS and starting over would be his suggestion. Food for thought.
