Has anyone ever had a seizure with headshaking and fluttering eyes

Posted by isaiah432 @isaiah432, Sep 18 7:27pm

Hi. Four years I have had partial simple seizures where I have felt a flashing sensation and a strong sense of déjà vu and a feeling of disorientation for about 30 to 60 seconds. But for several months now often on my seizures have changed where I have also had times where I have, completely spaced out and according to my family, my eyes will start to flutter, and my head will shake. I can hear them talking to me, but I can’t respond.

There are many kinds of seizures. Please advise your doctor of the change if you have not already done so.
Take care!

Hi @isaiah432
As I have learned, seizures can evolve and change throughout the years.
I have mostly auras and complex partial seizures. As you described, early I would have a strong sense of déjà vu and a feeling of disorientation for about 30 to 60 seconds and I would come back immediately after the seizure as nothing had happened. But with the years, my seizures have changed. Today, I can no longer talk during a seizure and it can take up to an hour to be able to talk again and not feel disoriented.
As @erin830 mentioned, it would be good to talk about those seizure changes to your doctor.
All the best!

Hi, @isaiah432 - Glad you've connected with @santosha and @erin830. I'd also like to invite some additional Mayo Clinic Connect members into this conversation who have talked about symptoms they or someone they know have experienced with seizures or seizure-like episodes. Please meet @calical @wisusa @jakedduck1 @bclankford @austas. I also thought @kaptainkat who talked about head rushes and body shakes might have some thoughts to contribute.

Isaiah432 - Have you had any more seizures with the symptoms you'd been experiencing for several months with spacing out, fluttering eyes and head shaking? If so, did you again find yourself hearing people talking to you but unable to respond? Has your doctor weighed in on the changes in how you experience seizures?

I agree with @erin830 & @santosha that these changes need to be discussed with your physician/neurologist. I have my suspicions about your seizures, but not the expertise you need.
I hope you will share what type seizures your neuro feels your having and any medication changes/additions made.
Have you ever had or been tested for photosensitive epilepsy?
Take care,
Jake

I don’t think my issue is applicable. I have resting head tremors and “closed eye” tremors. The tremors only stop with movement. How much movement depends on intensity of the tremor. I have issues with sleep, memory, thinking, vision, motivation, and appetite on a daily basis. I have not “blacked out” to date. I stumble sometimes upon waking up or turning in an odd manner, but it’s not much of a concern to me at this time. My main issues seem to be pretty stable for the most part. A hearing test a few months ago identified a big trigger: bone conduction headphones. It took 25 minutes of pursed lips breathing to calm the tremor down to a level where I could drive home. No deep breathing. Two deep breaths increase the tremors. I am trying to learn triggers and avoid the ones I can identify.
