How long did you have to wait to see a Cardiologist?

Posted by heartme @heartme, Mar 23, 2023

My husband received his very high CAC score (1,500) early in March and the current time for him to get triaged by the intake people can take up to five weeks we were told. And that's not for an appointment, just when they will contact him to make an appointment!

Is this the norm these days? Would like to know how long you had to wait.

That depends...Glenda is in Canada and they have their own care system.
I have been really good at being the "squeaky wheel" on the phone, asking for a spot on the cancellation list, and repeating every few days to a week.

I’ve called my drs office twice this week , requesting a call back and so far nothing!! 😡

Ask to be put on a waitlist for a quicker appt.
My first visit was scheduled for 4 months but with a cancellation it was 2 months.
Try 2 diff hospitals and then cancel the appt not needed.

Neurologists are worse. Some are waiting more than a year for appointments. I am in Pennsylvania. I am an established patient and have to wait 3 mos.

Does your husband have any symptoms ?
This seems like a long time to get in ?
Could you go to another area affiliated with insurance ?

I’ve requested to be referred to St John hopeful to get in quicker !

I just read all the posts ... my experience is similar. It's very troubling ... I hear it more and more often from friends as well. My most recent situation (not being a new patient) is knowing I have a problem per local MD tests. Required a cardio monitor from the cardio facility for a month before they'd give me an appointment. They said the reason was to know which MD to assign. It took 4 weeks to get the right monitor. They sent the wrong one twice. The elapsed time time included monitor vendor shipping time back and forth, changing the medical order time, weekend time and being required to use only the portal time when messages are reviewed and answered. As those on this site would likely guess, I'm mot getting any better while I'm waiting.

Well I finally had the receptionist call me back from the cardiologist office , booked me for the end of October, she actually said she didn’t know why I wanted an appt??? Since I’ve already seen a surgeon??? Who gave me very little into except to say we shall monitor in 6 months ? I’m starting to have high diastolic numbers ?? But according to receptionist that’s a problem for my family DR . I have an appt tomorrow am! What a struggle!!!!!

It’s the same everywhere not only the wait for an appointment but then one has to face a lack of empathy from the consultant and the clinic staff especially if you. Have recently been diagnosed with a cardiac condition even if one gets an appointment the staff makes sure that the patients keep on waiting till they become stiff

Oh my, that is a very dire attitude.
I have had an opposite experience. After an Urgent Care directed ER visit, the on-call cardiologist recommended a heart CT scan, which was done in 4 days, and the cardio visit was scheduled two days later. He started conservative measures to treat a blockage, ordered more tests, and is seeing me in 2 weeks. His staff has been most responsive, and he personally replied to status update he requested on Monday, within 12 hours of my message. I need surgery for another matter and he is consulting with that doc to make sure I am safe.

Not every doctor or practice is uncaring.
