@linderskilde1993 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. You recently had a sleep study for REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) and there was no evidence for this disorder.
During the sleep study it showed you have very little eye movement during the REM sleep phase and you are wondering if you should be concerned.

May I ask what your provider said regarding the, "little eye movement?"
I got a sleep study looking for RBD. It was a no, but i only had 16 minutes of REM sleep that Night...is that really enough? Im scared right now
@linderskilde1993 You had a sleep study done and RBD was ruled out. The sleep study showed that you only had16 minutes of REM sleep. You are wondering is this is enough REM sleep.

@linderskilde1993 Hi and welcome, I have had 3 sleep studies and had one just recently in October 2020 so I'm not sure what average is. I have sleep apena and due to being in CPAP therapy my insurance wanted an updated study. So based on that I had 3 periods of REM sleep over a 6 hour sleep period for a total of 75 min. I was interrupted a few times with apena's and that's probably why mine are divided up. Plus it was divided between with CPAP and non CPAP so it was not a completely normal night but I do know that depending on how well you can sleep with all the stuff on may be a factor also. So my avg was about 25% of the night in REM but most of my night was in N2. Hope that may.shed some Light on yours. My tech also noted I was restless.
Have a Blessed Day
Dana
To me, it sounds like not enough REM, so you are sleepy during the day. For my husband, there were over a hundred "interruptions" and that is what the cpap helped correct. The interruptions wake you to breathe, and that causes less time in REM.
My husband's sleep study results mentioned the number of interruptions in REM sleep and it was in the hundreds. CPAP helps him. Parasomnia has other possible symptoms and you might ask about that. Avoid benzodiasapines/clonazepam as there are other, better tolerated, remedies out there. For me, the more insomnia, the more anxiety about being able to get to sleep. THC/CBD has helped, as have basic yoga stretches before sleep. I take a percoset at night and that seems to help, but still searching for answers. I typically wake up an hour into nighttime sleep and am wide awake.
I was recently diagnosed with Rem Sleep Disorder. My disorder is different from all the articles I researched and I wanted to see if anyone else is like me. I have terrible vivid hallucinations of zombies, people leaning over me with knives, skeleton heads six inches in front of me, etc. I scream and try to push them away. These hallucinations happen when I wake and open my eyes. I'll see my husband laying there and a man leaning over him. Once I open my eyes I know exactly where I am and often get up. This is different in that articles say people are asleep and act out during sleep and don't remember. Does this sound like anybody? Thanks.
I have had many of the violent nightmares you describe since I was diagnosed with RBD @ Mayo. In my case most were
someone trying to kill me and I am struggling-flailing-kicking to save myself. There were some “zombie-type” hallucinations peering down from the ceiling. In my case all this is accompanied by loud screaming on my part. I had 2 injuries on the times I Bolted out of my bed as I acted out the dream - once hitting edge of baseboard resulting in 5 gashes
in my scalp. I woke up in response to the pain on my head and recalled whole event that just happened. I was perfectly alert, in pain, and knew to put towel on my head & get to ER. Five staples needed. Other event where I bolted off bed to escape “killer”
wound up on floor other side of room resulting in broken clavicle. Far as remembering the nightmare-i recall all the “action” with details for several hours after. The medication often given to people with RBD
not option for me..ive taken
Melatonin3mg on and off. I havent yet had the polysom overnight test..may do so for the record. Lately it seems my
nightmares-when they do occur- are less violent as before. If you have anyquestions-if I know answer-Ill be happy to answer.
