I did get a flu shot while tapering, No reaction except sore arm for a day.
My neurologist told me that I wouldn't build up as much immunity while on prednisone, but it was still important to get it. If you are tapering he may be thinking if you're on a lower dose in 6 weeks you may be able to build up more immunity if you wait to get it.
Yes. If your doctor wants to talk about and may have other specific concerns for you, then that makes sense. But I don’t see a reason not to. People sometimes have strong opinions about vaccines though.
Neither my dad (who has PMR) nor I get the COVID and flu shots at the same time, however. While it may be more convenient, my doctor suggests to do them at least 2 weeks apart to get better immunity (since we’re immunocompromised) and my dad got them both at one time once and he felt really sick. It was fine, not dangerous, but not comfortable.
thank you
Something interesting and unexpected. I was experiencing a MCTD flare and battling an ear infection and on antibiotics, so intentionally avoided prednisone. I began experiencing all over body rashes that looked like measles. Face, neck, trunk, legs and arms over 3 weeks the rashes kept up and kept moving around my body. Currently waiting for allergy testing for antibiotics as this is the 2nd time that this has happened. Needed a covid shot as we were leaving on vacation in 3 weeks and was unable to speak with my rheumatologist who was sick with pneumonia so decided I should go ahead and take it as I had a few weeks to rest and take prednisone in case it went bad.
Had the Pfizer covid shot at 5pm on a Friday and by the next morning my rashes began to finally fade and I felt soon much better. Not what I expected and I have no idea what mechanism was at play, but was relieved and grateful.
I have for the past 7 years with no side effects aside from a sore arm. Have been on prednisone all this time and also had my Covid shots during this time.
