EPI abdominal cramping

Posted by grannydee @grannydee, Jan 1, 2022

I’m still taking Zenpep and track every bite of food that I eat. (No sugar, no high fat, etc.
Trying to get 1200-1500 calories a day and it’s difficult, the pain makes me nauseous.
I’m down to 105 and starting to look like a refugee. I’m baffled and Gastro dr is too.
I can’t take aspirin, ibuprofen or Tylenol so I have to endure the pain. Got about 3 hours of sleep last night.

Hi, I’m 65 and was diagnosed with EPI in November. Medicare would not pay for Creon, so I am on Zenpep. So far I haven’t had any problems with paying for it, but I did have issues with another med for my diabetes. I was off of it for 3 weeks until I finally got it straightened out last week. Meanwhile, my blood sugar levels have been all over the place and my EPI has been acting up. The other day I started taking one pill at the beginning of the meal and one at the end. The result is that my stomach hasn’t bothered me the way it had been. Yesterday and so far today I feel good. I have lost 60 lbs in the past 5 months. Since I was a little over 300 I don’t mind so much. I rarely eat more than one meal a day, which is ok for me. Food doesn’t taste like it used to, and it doesn’t take much for me to get full and stay full.
I am noticing that everyone’s symptoms are different, and that what works for one person doesn’t work for another. I was thinking of making a cookbook, so if you have recipes that are good, please let me know. I will attribute them and if you want to tell your story, I will find a way to incorporate it into the book. Best of luck to all.

I've had stomach cramping for sometime with constipation and diarrhea, unexplained weight loss of around 25 lbs last couple of years with hair loss and brittle nails, some Crohns. Really had stomach problems my whole life. Just found out today my EPI # is 137 marked as LOW. It's not severe but low. Also have a lesion on my pancreas. Haven't even talked to my G.I. doctor yet. Will I need treatment for this #. If so, hoping I can take OTC enzymes.
