I would love to be there if I can figure out the tweet thing. I will have my daughter help me. My question would be: Since I am newly diagnosed and have a gastroenterologist taking care of me, should I also have a hepatologist? What are the benefits of a hepatologist in the newly diagnosed patient?
Absolutely. Heptologists specialize in diseases of the liver. There were none where I lived so I went looking..Kind of like taking you mercedes to the local neighborhood garage. He can probably fix it but not as quickly and as well as a guy who just works at the Mercedes..dealership who works on nothing else.
I did not get to see it. I could not remember my password for twitter. My memory is failing me. I did not, therefore, get the answer to my question. Sorry I missed it. Hope you are well today.

For complex liver issues, we recommend you see a Hepatologist or a GI with expertise in liver disease. #LiverChat

#Liverchat question from mollyb1968 on Mayo Clinic Connect: Newly diagnosed with a GI taking care of me. Should I have a hepatologist?
@mollyb1968, I am so sorry that you missed it:-( But I think I read on here somewhere that a summary will be available.
Your question was posted and addressed. I think I recall something like, a GI who is familiar with liver or hepatologist. But please check back to the summary for the correct wording. Rosemary
Molly and Rosemary, Audrey Laine posted Molly's question and Dr. Keaveny's response above.
If you want to see the whole conversation, you can see it here: http://twubs.com/liverchat (It is in reverse chronological order.)
Thank you Rosemary and I hope you are doing well also. Thank you so much for your encouragement and your answers. mollyB1968.
