This Is A Confusing Place
I'm sure there's a rhyme and reason to these forums but I haven't found them yet. Very nice people respond to posts and give lists if @....members but when you click on those you find comments that have nothing to do with your issues. Notifications of posts are also none related. I apparently have a lot to learn if I don't get frustrated and leave first.

Thanks for bringing this up @cahnny. Let me see if I can shed some light on how to navigate Connect and help you get the messages relevant to you.
I agree, there are very nice people who respond to posts here. It is a very informative and supportive community. Here's how you can get the most out of it.
Connect is divided in groups. Click this link to see a listing of all the groups https://connect.mayoclinic.org/groups. Further down this same page is a listing of the most recent discussions and activity.
When you follow a group, you receive email notices whenever a new discussion is started or message added. Learn more about how to follow a group here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/get-started-on-connect/#how-to-follow-group
Connect allows you to @mention other members so they are alerted when you've posted something that includes them. The moderators use the @mention to help connect members. For example, if you post something about "high blood pressure" or "laminectomy", we search for other members who have talked about the topic, and bring them into the conversation. Clicking the @membername brings you to the member's profile page where you can see their recent posts. While at times their recent posts may seem unrelated, we know they have talked about it in the past. It is a significant part of the moderating team's job to get to know members and help connect people with similar experiences. Sometimes we can't make an exact match because we only know as much as people tell through their messages. But we always make sure that no message goes unanswered 🙂 As Connect grows both in members and activity, more exact matches will be made. Thanks to all who are pioneering the way.
You can read more about @mentioning members here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/get-started-on-connect/#how-to-mention
Tailor your notifications and Daily Digests: Members receive a Daily Digest -- a daily summary of messages posted to Connect. We are working to make this digest better and more relevant to each member. In the meantime, there are things you can do to set your preferences and tailor the messages you receive in your daily digest. Learn more here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/get-started-on-connect/#how-to-set-preferences
I hope this helps. Do you have any specific questions or frustrations that I can help with? Furthermore, we're constantly working to improve the usability of Connect. Your feedback helps us make it better.
Cahnny - Do you use Mayo Clinic Connect on a computer or smartphone?
agree!
Agreed. This is a super confusing and seemingly random web program. I truly
appreciate the concept but really wish for a different web designer. If
Mayo is interested, I know of a guy in CA who works for a huge medical
company but does web designing as a side business...he would be AMAZING!
Colleen, please contact me if this is a possibility!
cahnny i am also new and feel the same way. plus i fee like i am in church most f the time. kk

Colleen: As much as I think this website could be very helpful at times, I'm finding it a little too much unless there's a way to tame it down. You and others have "tagged" a bunch of people and discussions for me. I understand that it's in an effort to be very helpful and I REALLY DO appreciate your dedication to this and to everyone here BUT.....
Every time I check my e-mail, the box is flooded with replies and likes. So many "replies" have nothing to do with any of my issues or comments or interests at this time but rather refers to something someone who was tagged for me said in a completely unrelated forum. Although, being someone with lots of questions and medical issues of my own to deal with, I am sympathetic to others who are looking for the same kind of support. It's just that I don't have the time to check all the e-mail posts from conversations that, in no way, pertain to my issues. Since e-mails don't give enough information in the header to determine whether or not the comment is related to me in any way, I have to open each and every e-mail. Just too much.
Is there a way to trim e-mails sent to ME down to ones that actually have something to do with my issues? In 8 hours almost 20 e-mails were sent to me. I seem to get that many or more every time I check my e-mail which is quite a few times a day. Just way too much.
I sort of agree. I started on the Mayo Clinic infectious lung diseases
(MAC) and am now getting more e-mails about care giving issues. Thanks
for bringing this up. Of course, we all care about each other's
situations but one focus is better. Kathryn
Colleen: Just wanted you to know I found the place to control what e-mails I get and have adjusted the settings as well as the forums and people I've been connected to for one reason or other. Let's see how this goes now. Sorry for not looking around for self-help with "too much" before asking you for help.
Hi. I'm brand new to Mayo Connect and obviously to the groups. I'm so glad you wrote about your confusion. I noticed the same thing.

No problem Cahnny. As I mentioned, we are in the process of changing the emails members get to tailor them better, sending email relevant to their interests. I would like to reach out to you by private message to discuss your experience with the site to help inform these changes. Would you be willing to discuss?
For anyone reading this discussion here is how you can set your email notification preferences
You can control how many emails you receive by editing your Account Settings here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/account.
Here are instructions how to set your preferences https://connect.mayoclinic.org/get-started-on-connect/#how-to-set-preferences
I recommend checking the box that says “ONLY INCLUDE THE SPECIFIC THREADS AND GROUPS I AM FOLLOWING IN MY DIGEST.” Then your digest emails will be specific to your activity and not include other updates from across Connect.
I hope members will keep the "when someone @mentions me in a post" ticked as the moderators use the @mention feature to bring you into a discussion relevant to your experience. This is what Connect is all about, helping to connect people to help others.
