Treatment for chronic Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)

Posted by cummings3 @cummings3, Jan 23, 2017

My son has been suffering with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) for over a year. I have taken him to an immunologist and infectious disease doctor with no answers. He is always tired and never feels well. He has relapsed with Mono twice in the last 10 months.

I have an employee who gets me this really strong 1000mg cbd tincture which I'm sure you can find online or at a nearby dispensary. I take 1 drop under my tongue every morning with 1 full dropper of zi cao from Hawaiipharm. The shikonin I've added to the zi cao tincture I order from a lab on Amazon. It claims to be 95% pure medical grade but I'll omit that link for now as I'm in the process of sharing the lab paperwork which they conveniently include with each order to an MD whose focus is on ebv and cmv. I take 1 full dropper of zi cao in the afternoon then another before bed with 1 more drop of cbd. Zi cao/gromwell root is the plant, shikonin is the compound from it which hinders ebv replication. It also, has very low toxicity and is great for the function of several organs which are also affected by ebv.

If you're interested in adding more zi cao to your regimen, I recommend brewing this into a tea (can't post links, go on Amazon, search for gromwell root and look for the the purple powder[Herbal Powder] 100% Natural Gromwell Root Powder ). Though I've found the tincture to be sufficient all on its own. I throw in a cordycep and turkey tail supplement on occasion also, readily avail on Amazon.

The thing I've noticed most about my symptoms is that they're constantly changing and never gone completely. I'll have bad eye days, intermittent fever days, inner earache days, bad lung days, and malaise days. The cbd has made me virtually headache and neuropathy free, thankfully. But before I found my own solutions, I did a ton of research and learned, a) that doctors aren't doing much for ebv sufferers, and b) there are a hell of a lot of research papers online pointing to natural treatments and I have felt 1000% better as a result of it. My motto has now become where the east meets west is best.

Please Google shikonin ebv, cbd ebv, cordyceps ebv, lysine ebv, etc., and you'll see what I mean. Please do your own research. What works for one person might not for everyone. But if I can help even one person get better and live a more fulfilled life in this short amount of time we all have on this earth then at least my experience with this awful virus wasn't for nothing.

To Igervasio: Which CBD tincture are you using, and which gromwell root tincture? What is shikonin? And where does one get these things?

I got Covid when I was 4 months postpartum with my only child. It was an incredibly stressful time and the Covid reactivated Epstein Barr virus. I have been ill for 16 months. It has caused Hashimoto’s and celiac. All most doctors have wanted to do was put my on levothyroxine and call it a day. I found a functional medicine doctor who has given me neurological exercises and put me on a homeopathic protocol specifically for Epstein Barr Virus. He also has me taking a repairative digestive powder in the morning and at night (glutamine, aloe, ginger, etc), monolauric acid, l-lysine, IV glutathione, a supplement to support my B-cell/th2 response (my autoimmune response is Th1 dominant), vitamin D and a cream that absorbs through my skin and supports my adrenals during the day as well as another supplement to support my adrenals at night. They have me on an autoimmune paleo diet during this 8 week protocol, after which we will be adding eliminated foods back in one at a time. They have told me that gluten is often not okay for anyone with autoimmune issues or chronic epstein barr virus to consume again because it is so inflammatory. Since Covid, there has been a huge increase in reactivated Epstein Barr virus. EBV is the root cause of many adult chronic health problems. My best suggestion for others suffering from this - find an experienced functional medicine doctor with knowledge on EBV in your area. Since starting the protocol my body has been purging. It is not easy but I have a young daughter and I want to be there for her, I want to raise her. The goal is to get the EBV to go into latency again. Stress management, good sleep, nutrition and detox are all part of maintenance once the chronic reactivated EBV is addressed. If it is never addressed, it will continue to wreak havoc on you. Look into Dr. Kharrazian’s books for good info. Good luck on your journey!

Hello. I have EBV but not sure if its Chronic. Been to several specialists and the chronic fatigue seems to be autoimmune related but can never get a definite diagnosis. Blood results are always inconclusive. Can a person have multiple viruses? I don't think that EBV is the primary cause of my symptoms but would sure like to know what is. I have a swollen face that looks like a bad sunburn, it never goes away. WhatevercI have, i pass to another person.i can't share anything , not sure if its the EBV or something else. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Have you had a CT scan done? I went through something similar and through a CT scan they discovered enlarged lymph nodes throughout my body. Had bone marrow and lymph node biopsies and tons of different blood work. Never remember having mono but somehow the EBV virus was reactivated and affected my liver and spleen. Lost a lot of weight suddenly and had two bouts of jaundice. Hope you get this resolved. It took many hematologists to figure my case.

Hi, I was diagnosed with EBV in 2022. I got jaundice in June. I went to the hospital twice. Did multiple mri, cts and a liver biopsy. Hospital dr said it was supplement induced but he brushed me off when I told him I had a functional dr giving me supplements for EBV. Today I went to a different liver dr and said I had jaundice from EBV.
Nobody has been able to tell me why and I’m so afraid of getting this again bc I was near death (92 lbs) in hospital. Still recovering but my EBV numbers are really high. What did you do to help with liver damage??? Why does EBV cause this? I can’t find a hematologist in okc. Any advice please!
