Covid 19
I had a question to ask; I hope somebody can help. I have been sick for 1 month and can't take it anymore, so I went to the doctor. When I went to the doctor for a checkup. She did a nose swap and told me I don't have COVID 19. But my test shows that I do. Why is that?

Did your doctor give you the results immediately, or in a portal/online service?
I would ask her to confirm. We’re not supposed to provide medical advice, but if you have access to an at-home rapid test, you can test yourself at home and they’re usually quite accurate. It may not be as accurate if you’ve been sick for a while, but it could give you an idea of if you’re contagious, if you’re worried about getting your kids sick.
@launica0987, I haven't used the same home COVID test that you are using but I have used a few of them the past 3 years and have gotten a false positive. Going to the doctor and having a nasal swab which they tested confirmed that I did not have COVID at that time. Am I correct that you used a Quidel Sofia SARS FIA Test kit Here's more information that I think is on your home test kit.

What did your doctor say about your symptoms? Did they suggest any treatment to help you feel better?
There are other respiratory viruses that can cause similar symptoms.
Launica0987, The test often times will still show positive at the doctor's office even after it has been a while since you contracted COVID. I personally question the at home kits. I was told by a medical professional that you are more prone to get a false negative than a false positive with them. There is a nasty virus going around as well right now that is not COVID or the flu.
I tested negative for COVID on day 2 of my symptoms last year and on day 3 I tested positive. I definitely had COVID.
I know the protocol changes for COVID, but, the last I heard it is 5 days quarantine. Please check behind me on this.
Praying for you. Blessings....
I when to see the doctor
@emo Yes, I understand. I was just asking because I want to keep my kids safe from catching COVID-19. I was a nurse in New York around the time of the COVID-19 outbreak, but I never contracted the virus. That is why am surprised now.
@covidstinks2023 I was pleasantly surprised to see a positive result, as I had been working as a nurse around COVID-19 patients and had never contracted the virus. My primary concern is the safety and well-being of my family. I appreciate your kind words and support.
@johnbishop The test was conducted at the doctor's office. She kindly informed me that the initial result was negative, which eased my worries. However, upon returning home, I received a notification indicating a positive result. Therefore, I would like to inquire if the result is accurate or not, as I am concerned about the well-being of my children. I ask because there are other individuals who have contracted COVID-19, and they know if they are infected or not. I am currently experiencing various symptoms that are commonly associated with a COVID-19 infection, such as loss of taste, nausea, vomiting, and others. The doctor has prescribed medication to aid in my recovery, and I am hopeful that it will be effective. My doctor has not yet communicated with me since this afternoon, but she assured me that she will inform me of the next steps.
launica0987, I understand. I would be too.
Praying for your full recovery and your kids to not contract it.
Blessings & Prayers...
@launica0987, Sorry I did not realize the doctor's nasal swab was negative at first and then when you got home you were told the test was positive. That would be a bit unnerving to say the least. I hope you hear from the doctor soon and if not it may be worth calling them again to see if you learn what's next. Were you prescribed Paxlovid or other treatment?
I completely agree, and always feel encouraged to hear of others who take such care and concern about COVID. Your family is blessed to have you looking out for them. I'd be concerned as well with the conflicting information from the doctor and the test result. I live in the Chicago area, am immunocompromised with an entirely immunocompromised household so sadly COVID never stopped being a risk =(. We're experiencing an uptick in cases and hospitalizations in this area. Yet, when I was in a crowded bakery the other day wearing a mask, a group of tween boys was mocking me.
I hope you're able to resolve things soon and you recover quickly.
