Does COVID brain fog go away on its own?
Just curious if anyone has had their brain fog/dizziness go away on its own. I was hospitalized in November 2021 for a week. Thankfully all my other symptoms have gone away except the brain fog/dizziness. I really hate to think I’m stuck with this. I’ve tried everything I can think of-PT, visits to ENT/neurologist. I read this blog daily and have tried many of the suggestions you all give. (Thank you by the way). Im so tired of hearing “Your test results are normal”.
At the same time, I’m so thankful my other symptoms have cleared up. Hoping you all get relief soon!!

Hi. I’m now 2 1/2 years post my first infection which caused my long Covid. Just this past winter I started taking LDN for my neurological symptoms. You need to take it for at least 6 months to see if it’s helping.
It is helping me. All symptoms though not completely gone are diminished and I am able to live with them. I’ve had 2 more Covid infections since the first, and have gastric issues now I didn’t have after the first and second.
Nausea, great difficulty with
toilet issues. This is an ugly, insidious virus. For many of us, I believe it lurks inside forever. Good luck everyone.
Good l
I had Covid in mid May. Experienced so many side effects from it. I’m finally able to eat again but not everything I enjoyed before. Fatigue still with me, brain fog is extremely bad to the point I can’t drive anymore.
Doctors tell me in time I should get better but it could take a year or so.
This is not the way I wanted to live in our retirement but I’m thankful I’m still alive.
I have a calendar and notepads next to my recliner so I can write everything down.
My husband is 80 and is helping me a lot.
I belong to several support groups and so many experienced our same issues after Covid.
Time and more time for us to be better. ❤️
Nicotine has helped my brain fog a lot. Recommended by my long covid doctor. Look up The Nicotine Test. I couldn't tolerate adhesive on patches, so switched to gum 4 x day. I'm to the point that I'll try anything once and this is the only thing that has helped my brain fog. There's a lot out there and it's hard to sift through what is reputable. All I can say is I'm grateful my doctor pointed me towards trying it. Best of luck to you!
For me, part of it is prescription meds.
But I’ve learned, as all of my doctors have told me, that my sleep schedule, diet, exercise, and actively working out my brain makes a huge difference.
Northwestern had me use BrainIQ in my long Covid rehab. You can Google and read all about it. The app is about $100, as I recall. But there are “games” focused on different brain functions- memory, processing time, reading, shape identification, etc. I’m not endorsing it- but I suppose it’s like the work that needs done after a bad concussion or head injury- just my guess.
But every day has its very tough moments for me. I try to minimize the impact. If I can’t reduce it, I try my best to hide it. My personal fear is being exposed at work for now being incompetent. It sucks trying to act like the “old me.”
Have you read about nicotine patch? I just tried that this past weekend. The lowest dose. There isn’t a ton of research on it. But i was willing to try after I read it. I’m working to get back to 100% but I’m a 1000 times better than I was 4 days ago.
I was just in the er once again for the dizziness it comes and goes this time I couldn’t even stand up, I’ve struggled with the brain fog badly at times I feel like it’s getting worse. Recently I finally got into the right doctor and was diagnosed with Covid 19 long hauler. It’s been a struggle my heart goes out to everyone that was effective by this
Prayers to you
Mine has gotten a little better over time.
I use little notebooks to write down stuff-- helps reduce stress on the brain.
Good luck to you and to all of us...
I have to write things down also. I check my calendar every night be fore I sleep . Also sticky notes !! I try to make it less stressful. Stress is my trigger too!
Hey everyone, quick question: Has anyone tried using nicotine to help with brain fog symptoms? If so, I'd love to hear about your experience. Thanks!
My dizziness is so bad at times that I can’t speak out to my husband for help if I’m walking or in the kitchen. My head feels as though it spins quickly, my vision goes away… all the symptoms go away in less than a minute but not dizziness.
I’m not able to drive or do housework like I used to do. Thank goodness for my wonderful husband.
My doctor says Covid long haul symptoms take time and I need to adjust my life.
My taste, appetite and problems sleeping have improved.
I’m thankful for the Mayo Clinic Connect Support Group… knowing I’m not alone.
