Post HOLEP, Retrograde Ejaculation sometimes?

Posted by undecided @undecided, Mar 18 10:58am

I had HOLEP due to BPH about 5 weeks ago. They removed 78gr of 105gr prostate. Started sexual activity after the 3rd week. I was warned and expected Retrograde Ejaculation.
So far, I've had 2 totally dry events, 1 with same amount of ejaculate as pre-surgery and one with minimal ejaculate where there was also sperm in the urine afterwards. So, it seems the plumbing is doing all kinds of thigs. Looking for others' experiences.

@ahatfield74 - the medication I took for bph for years resulted in retrograde ejaculation. Honestly, other than the absence of visual confirmation of orgasm (the ejaculate) I felt all orgasms were unaffected in terms of intensity or enjoyment. Of course, my experience may not be your experience.

Can anyone tell me how their orgasms are with retrograde ejaculation? I am looking at surgery for a high bladder neck and BPH and the doctor said it’s basically a 100% chance of retrograde ejaculation. I have heard mixed things about how it affects orgasms.

I had a holep procedure in Feb 2024. Also have a high bladder neck. The intensity is there, but at 1st you feel like there's something missing. After a while you don't notice that something missing and it's still enjoyable. I would say my pre-op orgasm is about 98% intact. Depending on your condition it may be better than pre-op I have heard this as well. I had no issues pre-op, in that regard, so I'm close to 100% of my pre-op , but not quite there.

I was disappointed.....not having the semen exit the male member is something I miss. Now, it[s more of a feeling of orgasm, just not as powerful/enjoyable as ejaculation. It was a choice I had to make for Hotep.....

I am 67 and have had treated BPH for 8 years. I originally had a Rezum procedure performed in 2020. It helped greatly but only one side of the lobe took to the procedure. Eight days with a catheter and I was up and running, business as usual. Four years later the typical urinary issues returned. I had the HOLeP procedure done on October 10, 2024. My prostate was 131 cc and they removed 69 grams of tissue. Kept the catheter overnight while staying at a local hotel (I live 2 hours from the hospital). After the catheter removal I've been urinating quite freely. I've been wearing "Depends" or similar products along with a pad, changing the pad every 30-50 minutes. I'm doing my Kegal exercises which at this early stage no changes have been noticed. For those who have had similar incontinence issues, when did you notice an improvement in urinary retention?
