Lung Matters Protocol

Posted by lvnl @lvnl, Jun 27 7:02pm

Hi, the info shared here has been so helpful as I'm now diagnosed with MAC after quite a few years of asymptomatic bronchiectasis. I see some back and forth about Lung Matters Protocol, could someone post the actual site (url)? Googling turns up several confusing results.
Thank you.

Yes it is a pretty good resource. I see their opinion about sterilizing and they do not trust baby bottle steamer very interesting. Worth to go.

Helen, that is one example of what @scoop is talking about - no room for disagreement. Please know that they are in a decided minority - most doctors and clinics that treat MAC say that baby bottle sterilizers work.

Yes Sue. That is why I feel interesting. Different opinions promote more thoughtful ideas. I love that. I also find it helpful to look into different resources and combine different ideas to make it a comprehensive picture.

NTMinfo.org recently posted about baby bottle sterilizers with links to research, which shows they kill the NTM, pseudo, etc bacteria. These papers were posted by the mycobacteria guru, Dr. Joe Falkinham. Actual research with a direct correlation to the issue in question. I chose to believe that over laymen opinion.

@lvnl @scoop @helen1000 Here is the scientific paper where a variety of sterilizers and germs were lab-tested.
The science says it works.

Thank you for this post. I looked at the research article and I am in peace because two weeks ago I switched from sterilizing bags to a baby bottle sterilizer. I am happy how it works for me. Wash, soak, rinse in 10 min boiled water and then drop all in the machine which sterilizes and dries. It gives me a few minutes of extra time at night. So thanks again for the proof I am doing the right thing

According to Dr Joe in a recent post on NTM-ir, soaking is not needed before sterilizing, nor is washing/rinsing in sterile water. Just wash & rinse in regular water, drop into the sterilizer, it takes care of the rest. Even quicker!

This will be a difficult habit for me to break. So what's the difference between cleaning and sterilization? Cleaning removes dirt, debris, impurities, etc while sterilization eliminates microorganisms, bacteria etc. Does this mean that sterilization both cleans and sterilizes? Playing devil's advocate here!

Once a week I do a “vinegar day” to remove the pieces of the meds which I use to nebulize. I wonder if I even need this since I put all in the sterilizer ever night.
