What kind of a doctor deals with muscle spasms?

Does anyone know what kind of a doctor deals with muscle spasms? I get one in one spot on my back about every three months. They are unbearably painful and they last for 4-6 weeks during which time I have to sit in my chair with my heating pad and do nothing. I am 82 and this is not how I planned to spend my last days! I cry.

Are there any good OTC muscle spasm relief creams/gels/sprays, that could help with back muscle spasms? Looking for something which is not internally taken which could help. Have tried so many creams/gels/sprays, but still searching. Thanks for your help.

They say potassium helps! I used y to get really bad cramps in my feet and I’d eat a banana and they’d go away. Maybe try that? Out a potassium supplement?

What part of the back? Upper, middle, or lower? I use massage balls I purchase on Amazon. Some used tennis balls if it’s in the middle back I will use a pair of Penh and take one lag and put one or two bottles in throw it over my shoulder and back up to the wall and Massage if you have a local masseuse near you, that is also an excellent choice for muzzle spasms. Also, and I think it’s called EMS or tens unit. They are wonderful many times where nothing else is.

Have you seen a physician about this condition?

I've seen just about every relative physician. Also 5 or 6 pain clinics. I haven't seen a neurologist yet but will be making an appointment today.

Correction: lol - pantyhose take one leg and put one or two balls in the leg and throw it over the shoulder.

I’ve also been told to use moist heat before doing muscle release and that it takes consistent work to release stubborn muscles, sometimes months doing the procedure 2 or 3 times a day.

Not muzzle - muscle spasms.

Apologies about using the microphone causing typing errors. 😉

Thanks for the advice. I thought that was what you meant. It sure feels good to take a hot shower. I use a small pillow folded in half.

Thank you for your quick response. The pain is throughout the spine, but more concentrated in the lower back making it difficult to walk. I will try the recommended balls in pantyhose - anything is worth a try to help. Be well.

Thank you PHT, wishing you wellness and laughter. ☺️ For lower back I have to continually work on loosening tight hamstrings, front hip flexors. And now I am very slowly trying to strengthen my Glute medius and glute maximus. It’s hard due symptomatic Tarlov Cysts under sacrum and various problems in lumbar area. I seem to be tolerating 4th day of Alyssa Kuhn Arthritis Adventure on you tube. I like her 45 minute exercise routine with her 87 year old great grandma in law! I’m going slow. 😀
