Prolia and Hair Loss
Anyone experience hair loss with Prolia? I would also like to hear about those on Prolia with no issues?

I am so sorry to hear of your issues.
It sounds very familiar. My endocrinologist also has been no help with hair loss. I called Prolia to discuss side effects and the pharmacist also claimed it was not a side effect.
I am in the process of trying to determine what I can do about my massive hair loss after 3 shots. I also see a regenerative doctor who ordered extensive blood work which included the drawing of 25 tubes of blood. Most results have been close to the normal range except for the Human Transforming Growth Factor Beta 1 (TGF-b1). First time I have ever had this test--didn't even know what it was. My results are over 10X the high normal range. Dr. said TGF is an inflammatory marker and an indication there is inflammation in the body. Have to find out why?
I have quite a few of the side effects from high TGF-b1. Now I have to find out what toxin is causing it, (Ex: Enviromental Factors (mold etc), Metals, Cancer, or the Prolia)??? I am having an environmental. metal, and mycotoxins test done this week (will take several weeks for results to come in). We also have an inspector coming to our home to test for mold, etc. (Will also take a couple weeks for results). (And of course, all these costs are out of pocket, insurance doesn't pay for it.)
The way my hair is falling out, it will be visible to others shortly (already is to me). I have been researching wigs and figure I better go for a consultation before it is too visible.
I had my 3rd Prolia shot in April 2024, so it will be in my system through at least October.
May I ask what medicine you started taking to help with the Prolia rebound loss? I will have to make that decision by October. I will Not take Prolia again!!!
Sorry for being so lengthy, but since hair loss is a lot of times a result of inflammation, I thought maybe this blood test could be helpful to the group. I am just learning about this myself.
Wishing everyone the best and appreciate you sharing information on this website.

2 ReactionsHow long have you been on Prolia ?
I had 3 shots of Prolia when my hair fell out by the handful.
It has been over a year since I’ve had a shot.
My hair has actually been growing very slowly for the past 2 or 3 months. I’m not sure if it is thickening though. I am hopeful.

3 ReactionsMy doctor prescribed Aldendronate when I went off Prolia.
I was on Prolia for 18 months (3 shots). Last month I started to rebound with Reclast. My hair has been falling terribly within the last month or two. I mean handfuls. I did’nt like being on Prolia, I’m sure that this hair loss is because of Prolia. Also my nails are a mess. They will not grow because all they do is split and peel. I never had this issue before. My gums are getting inflamed also. Now with this all being said, last week when I went to stand up I rolled my ankle and fell. Nothing broke!! I’m glad that I re-thought taking Prolia.

3 ReactionsI am having the same problem, i just had my 3rd shot of Prolia and now i'm terrified. My hair has been thinning so much i can see my scalp. I have always had a thick full head of hair, and now this. I spoke with my doctor about the hair loss and she never mentioned that it could be the Prolia causing it. What are the alternatives?

1 ReactionI took one dose/injection of Prolia in January 2024. I experienced major hair loss, extreme joint pain, depression, and foggy brain. I did not know I had the latter until I stopped taking the drug and realized my cognitive ability had been impaired. I was only told about jaw necrosis as a side effect, no other side effects. After I did my own research (from medical sites), I realized the other side effects and the serious possibility of spinal fractures if the drug is stopped without going on another osteoporosis drug. I stopped taking Prolia after one injection. I am not advocating this without speaking with your physician, but I felt better mentally, and my joint pain and arthritis improved. For myself, I cannot take a drug that would leave me worse off than before I started them, and that I would have to be on for the rest of my life.
I solved the hair loss problem by taking a vitamin and biotin supplement, Vital Hair Complex by Vital Nutritive. My hair stopped falling out after taking it for one month and started growing in again. I took the supplements for 4 months.
I am now working with a new doctor to improve my bone health with diet and exercise.

2 ReactionsI too had bad side effects from one prolia injection- had it in January 2024 and now taking actonel once a week which is better- but have some bloating gastric issues. I am 76 very fit exercise about 14 hours a week- weight bearing etc. I too would like to do it naturally and yes I had hair loss with Prolia. Has the Dr. recommended any special supplements? I was never told there could be a issue when I discontinued Prolia. Is your osteoporosis severe or moderate? Mine is moderate more in the hip neck area. Not spine.

3 ReactionsI’ve only had two doses. My hair loss might have increase a little but since I’ve started apixaban I’ve been raining rain. I lose 12 hairs while brushing my teeth! I have a hand full of hair after washing it. It’s seems that every day the loss increases. It’s like chemo hair loss but at least I don’t have cancer. I’ve been on the apixaban about 6 months but I just noticed I have no hair on my arms anymore and hardly any on my legs.
