M to F surgery: Anyone else transition? Feeling alone

Posted by dsjohnston53 @dsjohnston53, Oct 24, 2023

I had male to female reassignment surgery about 12 years ago. However, my surgeon caused a fistula, and I was on a colostomy for 13 months. They could not close the tear and ended up suturing my “vagina” shut. Obviously, very depressed. Would love to talk to someone who has experience the same as I feel very lonely. Thank you.

I'm tagging @bobbie4481 and @keithradtke to bring them into this discussion and connect with Jeri and DS.

@dsjohnston53, did you find a physician to help with HRT or contact Plume? How are you doing?
@jeri444, were you able to get your surgery scheduled for this month? Would love an update?

Hi @karieanthony, I moved your post about wanting HRT treatment to this existing discussion in the LGBTQIA Health support group:

I did this so you can connect easily with others who have transitioned or are in transition like @bobbie4481 @keithradtke @dsjohnston53 @jeri444 and more.

@karieanthony, do you have access to gender-affirming medical care? Have you started HRT?

Not a lot to go on with this posting. First question I have is are you seeing a therapist? A therapist who is WPATH certified is your best bet in helping you on your transition. They can explain the alternatives (e.g., types of surgical procedures, state laws, HRT alternatives, etc.).
Next, I'd bring my primary care provider into the loop. They may refer you to an endocrinologist for HRT treatment. Most care providers won't endorse a surgical approach unless you've been on HRT for up to two years. You're going to need to fill in more of the blanks to help much more.
