Vertigo!
I have had it for a few months. Only when lying down. Never when upright.
I have tried the PT exercise ( lie down slowly on left side; then right; then on side)) many times but no success.
Any ideas?

Thank you so much!
Hey there @bobstokes11, Bless you. I have had bouts of vertigo over the years. Mine is due to either migraines or a sinus infection.
I keep Antivert/Meclizine (prescription) on hand at all times. I never know when I will get a flare. You can buy this over the counter as well under the name Dramamine or Bonine. I highly recommend talking to your doctor first before trying. This product can make you very sleepy. It usually will knock my flare up out in a few days.
I highly recommend not sleeping on the side that your vertigo is on..mine is always on my left side...my migraine side.
Be very careful bending over as this can cause you to go into a spin.
I have not tried a chiropractor, but, I have heard they can help with vertigo. A good Chiropractor.
Praying for you. This stuff can be debilitating and I am so sorry you have it. I pray you get better soon.
Blessings & Prayers....
Mine was cured having a PT do the Epley move on me. Like you, I tried doing it myself for some time, but it did not work. You need a PT trained in vestibular rehab. A medical practice that specializes in ears can refer, or might have one on staff. Wishing you all the luck with this--vertigo can be beyond annoying.
I think some are more predisposed to having the tiny crystals come loose from their 'lodging' in the vestibular canal, which results in vertigo. The Epley manoeuevre works well to restore balance and well-being, but it's not exactly intuitive or easy for the patient to do on his/her own. Not without some learning and practice.
I, too, have had vertigo. I now sleep with my head slightly elevated (I have an electric bed, but you could use a block under your mattress) and this has almost completely eliminated my vertigo bouts. Hope this works for you.
I had eply done few years back by an ENT. He explained about the crystals. Took a few times. But problem solved. Talk to your doctor.
I am seeing my PCP today. Asking for a referral to the Vertigo clinic group at U.W. Madison wi. They have 2 locations with vertigo testing and help I hope!
I agree w/Miriam as i’ve only had Vertigo once in my life & it lasted for 2/weeks - if u google it u’ll discover it is caused by some calcium crystals that get loose from where they’re supposed to be & once this happens u get vertigo which is the weirdest feeling in the world for those that have never experienced it - it feels like u’ve just became instantly drunk from having drank too much alcohol - the only thing that made my episode go away was the Eply maneuver done by my PT therapist or maybe a chiropractor could do it too, however, my PT therapist walked me thru the exact steps on how to do Eply and i was able to do it myself during the 2-weeks i had it and just an fyi ur skipping a step of the Eply maneuver bc there is a step of u having to do something else w/ur head more than what u said u’ve already tried - once ur calcium crystals have been put back in place where they belong then ur Vertigo will stop unless they come loose again in the future - my vertigo i experienced 3-yrs ago has never come back thank goodness - so best of luck to u.
I've had Vertigo related to Meniere's disease. Years ago I had problems with the crystals in my ear and they did the maneuver (which I have needed to do from time to time myself). The maneuver does help. However, when finally diagnosed with Meniere's, it all made sense. I have had the vertigo with nausea as well, and am grateful it is not a constant thing. Now I tend to get it when I lay down in bed (on my affected side) and I wait for it to pass. Please check out your hearing as well. I have some hearing loss and tinnitus in that one ear (related to high dose prednisone for several years). However, when I went for my check a few weeks ago, my hearing had improved (decreasing prednisone has helped). Since hearing usually does not improve, it was not related to just hearing loss and tinnitus, but now the symptoms came together for Meniere's. Keep something - even OTC - on hand for a sudden vertigo attack - which won't prevent it - but may help you to recover a bit quicker. Also, watching diet to be low in sodium and drinking enough water can be extremely helpful. Good luck!!
