Any suggestions to help with blood bruising on arms?

I’ve developed a pretty severe problem with blood bruises on my arms.
It started about 18 months ago and hasn’t stopped with diligent healing lotions, sunscreens, bruising creams, etc.
I recently saw a dermatologist who did a biopsy with negative results. He recommended continuing my regimen of lotion and sunscreen. I was disappointed he couldn’t help me more, but maybe there isn’t more he could do? A few months ago at an annual checkup I had comprehensive blood tests done and everything looks good. I’m not taking blood thinners or anything that would cause my capillaries to break so easily.
It’s so severe that I can tap my arm on something and it leaves a mark. My dog recently (accidentally) kicked her back legs off my upper arm and tore the top layers of skin off which left bad cuts and bruising from my forearm to my shoulder. I ended up at urgent care after it became infected and then 7 days on antibiotics. It’s healing but takes so long.
I’m dedicated to putting quality lotions and creams on my arms and I wear sunscreen when outside. I purchased sleeves to wear when outside working on my yard. I try to avoid the sun whenever I can.
I spent plenty of time in the sun growing up. I loved water sports and live close to the beach. But for the past 25 years my exposure has been limited. It seems this issue came on after I stopped taking pain medications and started using ibuprofen for pain. Recently, after reading that ibuprofen can thin the blood, I switched to acetaminophen. I haven’t seen any change yet.
Just last night I pushed a chair in at a dinner table and the top of my hand tapped the underside of the table, I now have a blood bruise across the top of my right hand. It seems like every day I have a new bruise.
I feel like my life is limited to avoiding the sun and hiding my beat up arms! Summer is here and I’d love nothing more than to be able to go outside in short sleeves and enjoy the day without getting stares at my horribly bruised arms! I know this is common with old age. I’m 65 and feel like I’m too young for the severity of bruising.

Is there anything that has helped anyone with this issue? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

We really can’t avoid the purpuras which arrive as our collagen level decreases with time. There is no cure so don’t waste your money. I do use concealers on my purple spots, which do a darned good job. Cover Girl or Maybelline. Not regular makeup because it rubs off. Concealers are very sturdy. Buy those. I keep several skin color shades. Makeup isn’t just helpful for our faces. In fact, I don’t use skin makeup on my face. My face doesn’t turn purple! Ha!

I have the same issue and people constantly ask me if I’m on blood thinners. My dermatologist suggested bruise creams but said just thin skin due to aging ( I’m 76). I attribute some to genetics as my father’s arms looked like mine and recent exacerbation due to prednisone I’m taking for a recently diagnosed auto immune disease.

I just turned 72 but had great skin until I started Prednisone almost 2 years ago. My eyes are red and very bloodshot like I have pinkeye which also started after I began taking Pred. I've managed to taper down to 6 or 7 twice and both times my arms began clearing up and so did my eyes. Not being a big believer in coincidence, I'm sure it's the Prednisone. Three ophthamologists agreed with me.

I got a pair of Geri Gloves from Amazon and they seem to be helping. Also read that a supplement with Rutin, Vit C and hesperidin helps and have been taking it for a few weeks, also from Amazon, and I think it's starting to actually improve the situation. I sympathize about long sleeves and the beat up look. It's almost 100 degrees every day down here in the Deep South and I don't want to go out anywhere in short sleeves because people stare at me. (I'm not paranoid, they really do) They're probably wondering if I'm contagious or a leper. lol

I don’t think a vitamin C cream will do the same thing. This is a healing cream.
There are omega creams out there you can try that aren’t as expensive. I can’t tell you how well they work. I originally purchased the Omega 6 Cream for my face and a 30ml container lasts me a long time. I have a small makeup spoon I use and all it takes is a small dab to cover my face. All I can say is that it’s helping my skin heal from not only bruising but discoloration from wounds and bruises. I justify paying more by the results I see. I’ve gone through so many products that did nothing, when I found Truth Treatment’s and got such amazing results on my face, I’ve stayed with them. I was seeing jowls forming on both sides of my jaws, they were definitely visible. I started Truth Treatment’s Transdermal C Serum and Hyaluronic Mineral Hydrator and they disappeared within weeks. Then I added Omega 6 Healing Cream and it has healed imperfections on my face. That’s what made me think about using it on my arms. It may not be sustainable but if it will heal discoloration I can move on once my skin’s back to normal coloring. The arnica gel I use is slow to aid in healing but I do think it’s helping. I’ve read so many posts about nothing working or helping, I just wanted to share something that does help. Definitely to each their own! And I understand not wanting to spend the money.

I am 83 and have been on HRT since my hysterectomy in 2001 at age 61. HRT has improved my skin dramatically. I know for sure b/c when I decided to get off it I looked like I had aged many, many years🫢😳. But it does not prevent bruising on my arms. Only taking care not to bump or tear my skin and Dermend helps with that.

Hi
Which HRT are you on and what dosage? I have tried to find a chart of "optimal levels" which would tell me the truth; not what the Doctor's think (those that go by the book).
I am 75 and currently started back on hrt compounded cream. I am not sure which is causing my total lack of interest in life. I'm trying to figure out if it's the hormones or do I need the meds? I have been on and off meds for 30+ years and it's a constant rollercoaster. If the creams don't work then I will go back on pellets. In either case my skin did not look good!
Thank you
Mary

@ms91849 I am on .5mg Estradiol. My urogynecologist who first ordered it said the dose was so small he saw no harm. But it definitely makes a difference in my skin. I am finding out that dehydration plays a big role too. I just moved to a new state and hope I will be able to get my prescription continued here. Good luck!

Hi, you need to get Arnica gel and put it on as soon as you bump yourself. This stuff will keep you from bruising and relieve the pain. It’s wonderful stuff but, you need to apply it as soon as you bump something. I’m on HRT as well.

I use a drop of Helichrysum oil and it breaks down the blood in the bruise and it fades.

Helichrysum oil - put a drop on the bruise as soon as you can and it definitely helps your body re-absorb the blood. It may take 2 days but much better than having it for a week or more.

Good morning @anne4u and everyone else who has been dealing with "blood bruising" on arms. I have read all of your helpful colleagues' responses. My therapist has noticed and verified a rather sudden increase in my "bruising". We reviewed my medications and noticed that the increase in the "bruises" began when I started taking Ibuprofen for my SFN (small fiber neuropathy). At my age, 82, I think the ibuprofen just might be more important than clear skin. Mine are predominantly on my arms, hands, and legs below my knees.

May you be safe and protected from inner and outer harm.
Chris
