Depression - feel like a burden to family, need to talk

I really need to talk to someone. I feel like a burden to my family. Everyone is so busy-there's no time to listen to my pity party

I know you mean well, but promising it will get better is not something you should do. You can’t keep that promise. It can be a long time of trial and error to find the right medication.

I totally agree. I recently came across GeneSight, which is a company that uses DNA to determine the correct medication. It has to be ordered by a Dr and is covered by some insurance along with the possibility of a copay. I need to find a psychiatrist because my GP is of no use.

You are definitely *not* a burden on your family. You may feel that way because depression gives you negative messages in the form of down moods and pessimism. Depression is a serious problem, and I urge you to see your doctor, who can refer you to a psychiatrist who can recommend meds to try. Be warned that it may take several months to find the right medication, as everyone responds differently to different medications. I've been on 3 or 4 , but have been on Wellbutrin the longest--for probably 5 years now. A good therapist can help you also; I saw several therapists over the course of many years. Depression can last a long time, or sometimes it's situational and sometimes lasts only as long as the precipitating situation lasts, but in any case, therapy is indispensable. Take good care, and keep us all posted! All best wishes!

I am filling out papers for Psychiatrist. My medical plan allows me to go to new Dr without referral. Thank you for your reply, it does help. Yes, I know how long it will take. I am asking for a test be done through GeneSite to find out what medication will be best. I will come back and let you know how I am and what is going on. Thank you
