Problems after chlamydia treatment

Posted by sparky1080 @sparky1080, Jul 24, 2021

I was infected with chlamydia at the end of January this year, and was tested mid-March and finished treatment early April (10 days of doxycycline).

I didn’t really have any symptoms besides some thicker discharge which went away, so I wasn’t really aware that I was infected.

Ever since being treated I’m experiencing weird symptoms, yet my tests are always negative.

I had Weird discharge (thick cervical mucus) and blood on may 7 (after finishing antibiotics at the beginning of April), which was the same day I tested again to ensure the infection was gone, test was negative.

I’ve been experiencing the following symptoms:

1. Lower abdominal pain by uterus /bladder, feels inflamed, sometimes feels like stabbing, urethra pain, also had some lower back pain on the left

2. Pain and itch inside on the left

3. Pain in muscle around pubic bone/groin - hurts when I exercise, sometimes when walking

4. Lack of vaginal discharge, some improvement with gynoflor (at one point it was very dry, small chunks)

I keep getting pelvic exams and ultrasounds and the doctor keep saying everything is fine. I was prescribed gynoflor and fluomizin as she thought maybe it was irritation from yeast after the antibiotics.

I went to another doctor and he did an ultrasound and found fluid in my cul de sac behind Uterus, either from the infection or a ruptured cyst and that it could be causing the pain. He also said my body should absorb it . But this doesn’t explain all of the symptoms.

My Period has been shorter lately (may and June) only 3 days long, usually 4/5.

I’m really worried and getting extremely anxious and crying every day over this. I just want it to go away. If anyone has any advice or has had something similar happen it would be great to hear from you.

I just wanted to add my story. 1/2020 I was infected and I was treated in March after convincing myself it was a UTI that I tried to battle myself. It started to get pretty painful but was much more painful after I was treated, I was treated again for PID which they didn’t say I had, no one said it. Treated again for 21 days. I was tested 20 times and no one could tell me what was going on, was referred to specialists for all sorts of symptoms: pubic bone pain, I couldn’t even walk most days for a while the pain and heaviness in my uterus was so bad, the urethra pain was present from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to sleep and this went on for months and months. It started to resolve regularly about 6 months after treatment. It was totally gone after a year but I had also gotten pregnant and sometimes I think that’s what really ended my symptoms. The pain went away with time. It was a good opportunity to learn about womb health but other than that it was the worst time of my life and it was so scary. If you’re going through this keep trying to be your healthiest mentally and emotionally as well. I pray for everyone struggling with this maddening Chlamydia post treatment stuff, it’s so hard and doctors can’t tell you anything. Hang in there!

I just wanted to thank you for sharing your experience, it gives me hope. I'm also glad to hear you had a healthy pregnancy after experiencing PID, the impacts on fertility have really upset me. Hope you're still doing well

Hi how are you feeling? I recently had chlamydia and currently undergoing medication for a week now, but just frustrated because I can feel pelvic pain. i’m just scared it will not go away after the medication ☹️

I had severe pain ( burning/ pinching) on my Pelvic Floor for almost 2 years and found out I have Pudendal Nerve Neuropahy. Had to find a Gyno- Neurlogist in South Florida, that was familiar with this ( NOT MANY). Unfortunaly there is very little they can do. I opted for Lidocanine or Cortisone shots internally- very painful. It helps for about 6 weeks.
A few other recommendations were an insertion of a device/ burning the nerve ( very dangerous if they don't get the exact location/ surgery to find the exact location on your spinal cord that connects to the pelvic floor.
I am now working with a doctor in Tampa ( part of USF) and she is familiar with it. In the middle of my treatment 4 - to 6 weeks of shots weekly. If this is the issue please feel free to contact me.

Hi, @eflxu - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I'd like to clarify to make sure the right member you were asking a question of got your message. Was your question about whether the member ever found out what was happening for @sparky1080?

@eflxu, I also wondered if you've been diagnosed with chlamydia. If so, have you experiencd any problems after treatment?
