Hypopharyngeal cancer: Anyone treated with proton radiation?
My husband diagnosed with hypopharyngeal cancer in late June. He had a tonsillectomy and the right tonsil was removed. He will be ready for radiation and chemo treatment next week. Based on our research, we have decided for him to be treated with Proton Pencil Beam radiation in San Diego. Have anyone has the similar cancer and treated with proton radiation? I heard there are still many side effects (I.e. Dry mouth, swelling, skin irritation and fatigue etc.) with proton treatment. What do you use to alleviate the side effects? Thanks!

I believe that cancer cells use a lot of energy; that's one reason why we often lose weight with an undiagnosed cancer. The pet scan shows where there are pockets of big-time glucose/energy/sugar consuming cells. This doesn't mean that sugar feeds cancer. It's a commonly held myth that stops people in great discomfort from having food that might give them pleasure or be easier for them to eat. https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/causes-prevention/risk/myths
Excessive sugar consumption is bad in so many ways and I plead guilty to eating too much of it, but eating sugar isn't going to increase cancer and stopping sugar isn't going to stop cancer.
Does that make sense? You can ask your doctor or look at reputable sites on the internet.
I think I missed something you and Liz, who is Liz
Alpaca, I thought you might know each other already.
@elizabethbryant, the Liz who Alpaca is referring to is another member @lzzie.
O.K. got it, izzie is really active and appreciated
Have you all tried juicing? I started juicing right after my surgery and almost four years later, I am still juicing in the morning. I buy organic apples, celery, lemons, cucumbers, turmeric and ginger. I used to use kale, but not anymore since it is not good for thyroid medication. This is the kind of juice that separates the water from the fiber. I drink the juice right out of the machine so it does not oxide. I am also using frankincense . I rub it on my cheek and also internally. I do not put anything on my skin, but coconut oil with some oils like frankincense. And I do not use deodorant. I try not to use my cell. It does radiate. And I give thanks every single day. At the beginning, I lived on avocado and cuddled eggs.
Alpaca; thanks for the info on the sugar. It is very interesting. I too love a slice go good cake ! I am trying to remember what I did to lessen the mouth pain when I was in radiation therapy. This is what I used to do: Buy a mature large leaf of aloe. They sell them in latin food stores. Slice from the bottom a two inch slice. Refrigerate the rest. Peel the slice of all the green until you have the transparent meat and cut it into a confortable piece to put in your mouth and let it kind of melt. It is soothing. It does not matter if you ingest it. Sometimes I use it for constipation and I eat it.
Also, I do not use tooth paste. I use a water pick, and brush without toothpaste. Once a week, I use my dental guard with fluoride.
Can you share with me what works for you?
I really like that aloe tip. Sounds great.
GOOD INFORMATION, I DON'T KNOW WHERE I WOULD FIND THE ALOE AROUND CHARLOTTESVILLE WHAT IS THE
NAME OF YOUR JUICER?
Look for a hispanic store. Sometimes they have it at Wegmans; but I do not know if you have one in Charlottesville. Try calling Foods of all Nations. They might have it. The juicer is a Breville, the one with the strongest motor. I think the most important thing in our kind of cancer, derived from Lichen Planus, is to maintain a strong immune system. One thing I have noticed since I juice, is that I have not had a recurring athletes foot that I used to have. Be very aware of your vitamin D levels. I have found that every person with cancer that I have met, have a D deficiency.
Hi Elizabeth here, I put half an organic cucumber, apple, celery, lemon in a blender with a little water in the smoothie blender after chopping it up
and drank this. A doc is really into checking Vit. D. levels, how much are you taking daily. I understand Vit. D is important, Vit. C and K.
I also drink Frankincense in water. I am now using powder Tumeric in paste mint oil as a night treatment on my inflamed Lichen Planus.
when I sleep. I found some great stuff for dry cracked lips that I have developed sold at Target. Recommended by MCV
Thanks for your Excellent info. and encourgement. Time to get some zzzzzz
Hi,
I take a 5000 daily for vitamin D, though I skip it on weekends. I also do oils, and I am wondering what brand of Frankincense do you use. I understand that anything natural that prevents inflammation is good for us. Keep me posted on your progress!
