Problems after chlamydia treatment

Posted by sparky1080 @sparky1080, Jul 24, 2021

I was infected with chlamydia at the end of January this year, and was tested mid-March and finished treatment early April (10 days of doxycycline).

I didn’t really have any symptoms besides some thicker discharge which went away, so I wasn’t really aware that I was infected.

Ever since being treated I’m experiencing weird symptoms, yet my tests are always negative.

I had Weird discharge (thick cervical mucus) and blood on may 7 (after finishing antibiotics at the beginning of April), which was the same day I tested again to ensure the infection was gone, test was negative.

I’ve been experiencing the following symptoms:

1. Lower abdominal pain by uterus /bladder, feels inflamed, sometimes feels like stabbing, urethra pain, also had some lower back pain on the left

2. Pain and itch inside on the left

3. Pain in muscle around pubic bone/groin - hurts when I exercise, sometimes when walking

4. Lack of vaginal discharge, some improvement with gynoflor (at one point it was very dry, small chunks)

I keep getting pelvic exams and ultrasounds and the doctor keep saying everything is fine. I was prescribed gynoflor and fluomizin as she thought maybe it was irritation from yeast after the antibiotics.

I went to another doctor and he did an ultrasound and found fluid in my cul de sac behind Uterus, either from the infection or a ruptured cyst and that it could be causing the pain. He also said my body should absorb it . But this doesn’t explain all of the symptoms.

My Period has been shorter lately (may and June) only 3 days long, usually 4/5.

I’m really worried and getting extremely anxious and crying every day over this. I just want it to go away. If anyone has any advice or has had something similar happen it would be great to hear from you.

Hello, I was also infected with Chlamydia back in October, unfortunately I was misdiagnosed twice, that is why I am under treatment only now in March.
I was prescribed fluomizin and probiotics before the third test came positive for chlamydia. This is when my symptoms worsened, with fluomizin.
After starting treatment with doxycycline I have exactly the same symptoms as you prescribe - back and lower abdominal pain on the left side and discharge.. It is day 3, I hope will be better. But I think it is connected with the ovary and ovarian tube.
Maybe you should check your ovarian tubes, or pass a laparoscopic exam to be sure that everything is fine, or it is possible that it will take time to pass. I read everywhere that permanent or long term pelvic pain often happens after chlamydia is treated.
I wish you soonest recovery.

I also had numb hands so bad my daughter set up for hours that I mean it would be okay and she was only five at the time. I still have numbness everyday and the other symptoms are the same as most mentioned. I stopped taking it Feb of 2023 and it is still bad. I pray that we all get back to our old selves!

Did anyone ever find and relief or answers? I had chlamydia 2 months ago. I've been retested for that and various other things since and everything is negative. I'm having random itches/ periods of intense vaginal burning/ frequent urination which burns- my bladder is very tender to touch/ right sided pelvic pain and more painful periods. I was treated with doxy for 7 days. I'm always uncomfortable and I'm at a total loss

No, it definitely not just you. If I’ve learned something from this website thread is that Im not crazy and a lot of women are dealing with this. All Drs seem to he clueless:( I’ve gone to different drs and at least 20 appointments. It’s truly frustrating because Same all problems started when i got chlamydia. Before that I had never had any issues down there. And now it’s a daily thing.

Did this help you? I’m experiencing all the same things in this post. It’s a relief to know I’m not the only one, doctors are making me feel like I’m just crazy. I got infected in January and now in August I’m okayish but definitely still not 100%. Desperate to be completely healthy again.

it’s been awhile since i’ve posted an update regarding my experience with it in 2021, but unfortunately my sex life hasn’t been the same since then, seems like i’m a lot dryer than how i used to be, and there’s just a lot of friction involved. i do use lube and it does help but it just sucks because now certain positions are more painful than others to be able to enjoy it. I feel bad for my bf but he’s understanding of my situation, i feel like my sex life will never return to normal, but besides that. i do still have that itchiness & really bad cramps before my period and sometimes a bit of a burn like peeing hurts sometimes but it wasn’t as bad as when i had it before, i think i was told that when you have chlamyida and if you let it go on for even a couple weeks without treatment..it can do serious damage to your walls and uterus, and because i wasn’t aware of it, i let it linger for maybe 2 an a half months im not too sure, but ive heard it takes years for your walls to heal or build back up, but thats coming from someone else and im not sure if thats 100% accurate. but wouldn’t it be nice to know lol

Thanks for replying. No necessarily what i want to hear but I really appreciate it. I also had it for about 2.5 months and didn’t realize it and have all same lingering symptoms as you, and they flare up around my period (which also got extra painful and shorter. It also started coming every 2-2.5 weeks) I’ve been skipping it with birth control and it helps some. While years to rebuild and heal isn’t great… I’d rather that than never being the same again, which I’m beginning to accept might be the case… good luck to everyone < 3

Hey, I was diagnosed with chlamydia/pid and I also had an ovarian cyst in the middle of all of this. but, I have a history of ovarian cysts so thought it was a random coincidence. I read another post about a woman having an ovarian cyst during this too.
I also havve extremely bad periods that are so heavy and dark since this. I started birth control and my doctor recommended using it to skip my period for at least six months since we noticed the pattern of symptoms flaring up with my period.
How do you feel now?
