Are any other seniors experiencing a need to cry more often?

I'm 71 and have started crying "at the drop of a hat." Hearing the news or watching the worst of the human condition unfold in a movie usually triggers it. And once I get started, it's hard to stop.

I am 75 years old and have experienced two episodes where I started crying and could not stop. It involved a family member. I was surprised when it happened as usually I am pretty logical. I think mine is due to aging. Just aging. thanks for bringing up the issue.

Love your sense of humour re : The Kleenex Industry .
My wife , a former Nurse & Midwife , BOTH IN OUR MID EIGHTIES , reminds me .
If you experiencedd what I saw and nursed you should feel grateful every day you are alive .
Think of the ones much worse than you . She quotes the man who complained about having no shoes -- Until he met a man with no feet .
When you are feeling down - Think how lucky you are to be alive - Smile a lot and have a great sense of humour .
It's the ultimate medicine . Never let your concerns of tomorrow , Ruin today OR.
Today is the day you worried about yesterday .
Try hard to not spend all your time alone - your mind starts to play tricks . Get out and meet people . Even to the local library or walking around a store with other people .
Good luck .

Seems absolutely reasonable and normal to me. What would seem "abnormal"to me in the face of the mess we humans have made is to remain unmoved.

I’m 70 and get concerned if i suddenly start crying a lot. The last time i did it i was hypothyroid and as soon as i was euthyroid (normal thyroid). I have also gone through “crying spells” when i have been very depressed. It seems like quite a few of you find crying spells normal. However, when i find myself crying a lot i consider it a medical symptom and inform a physician

I am 65 and don't cry much but when I do I really don't I get it all out and it can keep me emotional for days. Life has not been easy the last 15 years of my life. I have cancer now I'm not sure what's going to happen. That is not why I cry I cry because we all get hurt and we all get treated unfair at times it just piles up and then the tears won't stop

I'm the same way, when I look at family photos of loved ones gone, I start crying.

Our culture doesn’t honor seniors as in other cultures. I don’t think depression and anxiety even among the youth would be as rampant if we valued their wisdom. Families need to take good care of one another and stay close especially as we are all getting older. It should not be viewed as a chore.
Americans need to understand this before our country falls apart.

I recently read an article on "blue zones". What seemed to be a recurring theme was social connections and community.

We need to value ourselves and those around us. Seniors who have experienced so much and have such wisdom should be celebrated.

I'm an 80 year old guy, with all that implies. We shouldn't cry easily. I've thought about it but believe it would be surrendering to my physical problems to do so. The only times I can remember breaking down was at the loss of good dogs. There is no reason to believe one of our daughters will be a cause for sorrow. In the unlikely event that I survive my wife, I know that I will. Probably daily. As for prayer, I avoid praying for myself. He's given me tools to deal with my problems. That's more than I'm entitled to.

There is a Netflix documentary called Blue Zones that explores areas of the world where it is common for people to be happy and live to be 100. I have incorporated many of their living habits- diet, movement, hobbies, connections and it helps. But I would also say that the state of the world is ominous right now and I think all of us are feeling it. HUGS!
