Smart watch to monitor heart

Posted by nene22 @nene22, Apr 3, 2019

I am thinking of getting an Apple watch that can tell when I am in Afib. Has anyone out there had experience with one?

I have an Apple Watch, an iPhone, and a small Kardia pad which you place 4 fingers on (2 from each hand)
These machines will give you some idea of whether you have a problem or not but won’t pick up on everything.
For example: my iwatch says my heartbeat is 80. However, the Holter monitor that I just wore for a week showed that it was over 200 bpm!!! Not 80!
The kardia machine also does not diagnose much unless you pay for extras. It too does NOT pick up on SVT.
However…the OMRON blood pressure machine WILL show a double heart sign if it catches something when you take a reading. Most doctors use OMRON (where I live) and so when I showed my doctor that my BP was stage 2 hypertension, he believed it! He also knew that my heart was doing something when he saw the double heart icon.

I found a much more economical option to use while exercising or doing chores etc. Polar device and the Polar app is available on any smart phone including android.

sometimes I have a pain in my heart that feels like a needle pinch inside. I don’t have SOB, I don’t feel heavy inside, is just this needle inside and I’m scared to breathe because if feel the needle pinch.
Is this relates to a heart attack ?

Most of the time I don't feel anything so don't know when I go into Afib. but, when I wore a halter monitor my dr said I was in Afib for 3 hours one time. I never felt anything.

When I wore halter, it recorded that I had episodes of tachycardia while I slept. I never felt a thing nor did it wake me.

Hey, I have a really cheap health watch ($40 something), and it records my highest and lowest heart beats of the day. It will also measure my heart when I feel like it’s racing. Just saying that even the inexpensive watches can be very useful.

However, I do not have Afib. If I had Afib, I probably would invest in an overpriced Apple product.

Get one that works best with your other digital portable devices such as a smart phone and a tablet. So, Apple for Apple, Android for Android

I have had three generations of the Samsung Gear and the subsequent Galaxy watches. Am wearing the Galaxy 4 currently for daily use, and have a Galaxy 6 in reserve because I like the featured rotating bezel on each of their faces. Rotate the bezel to get to apps and information/data.

I have no experience with Garmin or with Apple, so I can't in good conscience comment about them at all.

I currently have a Garmin watch and an iPhone. They have an iPhone app which seems to work ok. I heard from the "grapevine" that the Apple smartwatch was pretty good. I heard from others that Garmin is the best. It's confusing. My doctor didn't have any suggestions.

Thanks for responding.

My Apple Watch works fine for depicting rhythms...I could tell physically when I went into AF (nuts!) and used it to confirm before calling my EP.

The technologies offered by these smart watches are probably similar and do a good job. Another option is to get a stand-alone device like those sold by Kardia that connects to your smartphone.

My Apple Watch notified me I had a-fib, I never felt anything! My cardiologist said his practice has seen the Apple Watch alert correctly with HR, A-Fib, etc & they recommend it. I wear it all day & all night then charge it while getting dressed in the morning. My watch is a series 4, but the newer watch holds a charge longer. The watch pairs with my iPhone. The free APP called CardioBot is also good in monitoring your heart.
