Has anyone ever been on Duloxetine (Cymbalta) for nerve pain?
Has anyone ever been on Duloxetine (Cymbalta) for nerve pain? I've had 2 doctors push this on me. I know that the side effects can be terrible and getting off of it difficult as it requires titration. One time I remember taking one pill, and not liking the way it made me feel, so not taking any more, and still feeling the "weirdness" from it 2-3 days later. and that was only 30 mg Please pass along any experience or advice from this medication?

i'm on 2400 mg Gabapentin /day for peripheral Neuropathy. and 120 mg of Cymbalta for pain and depression. but together they don't seem to help much for pain. but the Cymbalta works great for the depression. go figure. 🤷♂️ danny5
Psychotropic drugs have always been pushed at me and have never worked. I was diagnosed with adhesive arachnoiditis in 1978. At the time there was no Pain Management specialty, just good faith efforts to find solutions for patients who have had enough surgery. First came the combo of Elavil and Prolixin, but I date myself. Bottom line, my experience is that antidepressants and mood stabilizers and Neurontin etc. are a terrible price to pay for quality of life. There is a protocol patients have to go through to find something that allows them to recover function and dignity. Often it feels like there are solutions out there but we don’t „need“ them yet. Cymbalta and Lyrica have been blunt instruments in my treatment. Good luck working through the process.
60 of gabapentin or the duloxetine?
I had one episode of the trigeminal neuralgia and take one low dose of gabapentin a day. I’m going to wean off of it (okay’d with my doc) on the off chance it really wasn’t trigeminal neuralgia episode, but just an odd nerve thing from something else. If I’m wrong, I’ll go back on my 100 mg once a day of the gabapentin.
I’ve been on Duloxetine and Gabapentin, for about 2 years and Hydrocodone for a few months having Narcolepsy and taking meds to stay awake I still wake up and 30 minutes later I’m ready for a nap then usually nap a couple hours in the afternoon. I have stopped Gabapentin a couple weeks and no change. I had the doctor change Duloxetine from 60 mg to 30 mg now I’m having headaches everyday STILL sleepy and haven’t noticed any changes in the nerve pain compliments of a failed back surgery. The leg pain is terrible I’m going today for an EMG hopefully it shows something since I’ve been turned down by 4 surgeons and Mayo clinic to fix the screwed up problem .
i forgot to say i take 100 mg of Celebrex mainly for my Herniated disc. i works pretty good for some of the other pain too. all i can suggest is to try different types of pain meds for yourself. good luck danny5
My rheumatologist said all drugs have side effects and he was dissapointed that I wouldn’t take cymbalta I’m already taking gabapentin. After reading the side effects it’s a definite no for me
Cymbalta worked for me for nerve pain but it definitely caused me erectile dysfunction. I was willing to accept this to get rid of the pain. The lyrics I tried previously did not work
Best wishes to all
Was on it many years ago and I remember it didn’t help my numbness and tingling.
That’s all I remember
Is Cymbalta worse than gabapentin in your opinion? I’m looking for any alternative to gabapentin for neuropathy. I hate the brain fog and the way it makes me feel in addition to all of the long-term side effects I’ve been reading about. I am 72 years old and I believe that makes quite a difference with this medication. Since the memory loss is already coming quickly, I don’t need to nudge it on and I notice it greatly with this drug. My doctor does not want to do pregabalin because he feels that is the last effort we should go to before trying everything else. I don’t really know what everything else entails. Has anyone taken some thing that works that’s not gabapentin or pregabalin? I never realized how much it added to my energy level until I tapered off of it.
Pregabalin works better for me than gabapentin. I rely on pregabalin and amitriptyline to calm things down enough to sleep at night
