Anyone developed pain in feet from Evenity?

Posted by rita @ritabtripp, Jul 23 8:06am

I have had 5 doses of Evenity and a couple months ago started having discomfort in my heels and balls and my feet have gotten progressively worse. My weight hasn’t changed (I’m not overweight), I wear good shoes with inserts and I have stopped all exercise that would exacerbate the pain. Initially the pain was only obvious if I was barefoot and now it hurts to walk even with my running shoes. It doesn’t feel like plantar fasciitis but I’m taping my toe and doing stretches to treat plantar fasciitis just in case. But the only thing that has really changed in my life has been starting on Evenity. Anyone else had this response to Evenity?

I didn't get pain in feet but in my hands/wrists. Started slowly at month 5 and increased to month 8 when then pain sent me to the ortho clinic. Osteoarthritis they said. Did one more month on Evenity and the pain was again increasing so I stopped. I did get an increase in spine density -3.6 to -3.0. But I was really happy about my trabecular bone density went from 1.0 to 1.355 which is normal. Before you ask in between each injection the pain seemed to get a bit better then increased with the next shot. Unfortunately, I followed up with Reclast, that I have taken before with no problem, but the hand joint pain increased; a lot. It took a year or so for the pain in my hands to decrease. Now I can open jars and pinch things. Not totally 100% but good enough. I take Actonel now.

I have foot issues anyway but after 4th injection had numbing on inside ankles of both feet that was worse when wearing my most comfortable Hokas. At first I thought it was the shoes but I had been wearing them 4 months with no issues. Sometimes I had pain on bottom of right foot. After injection 7 no more issues with feet.
I also had a bit of parathesia in hands and feet early on in treatment. Very mild and infrequently. I have had 8 injections so far and hoping for positive results.

Well that gives me a little hope. I had almost decided to stop the injections because I do not want to become immobile. If I knew it would not be permanent I might be willing to tolerate it until I finish treatments. I appreciate both of you sharing your experience

I developed plantar fasciitis shortly after beginning Evenity shots. I never made an association but now that I am reading this, it could be linked to Evenity. I am 7 injections in so we’ll see if it resolves.
I went for PT a few months back which helped and I continue to do stretches

I had similar muscle and joint pain beginning around 7 th month of injections of Evenity. Have posted previously about this. Had never had any aches or pains. It got to the point where it was difficult to get dressed and I bike, hike, etc. Pain in hips was especially bad. Quit after 11 months. Took a two -three month break from any meds then Fosomax which caused pain to start coming back. Pain took several months to subside. On Actonel now and doing well with minimal pain. I didn’t do Reclast as I was very concerned I would feel immobile after Evenity experience. Results were very good in spine -3.8 to -2.1. Minimal improvement at other sites but started around -2.8 to -2.5 at those sites.

TO ALL THAT HAVE SIDE EFFECTS NOT LISTED IN THE WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED TO YOU INITIALLY FROM THE ACTUAL DRUG COMPANY!!!!
I was strongly told to please report these to your dr and the FDA . The only way these other side effects will ever get posted in the instructions , so all would be aware , is if ENOUGH PEOPLE using a particular drug report it !!! IT WILL HAVE TO BECOME STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT.
This also goes for those recently reporting that Tymlos and Forteo are seeing an increase in their abdominal circumference. Giving them a pooch stomach.
Let’s help our community at large get all the information about these drugs and their side effects!!!

I called the drug maker of Evenity to ask if they had other reported complaints of foot pain. The person I spoke with promised me that she was adding my side effect to the file and that every so often they would update the list of potential side effects to the drug. Hopefully that is the truth. I have decided to take a break from the drug to see if maybe the pain will begin to alleviate. We are supposed to go to Italy the end of September but I can’t go in this state. I can barely walk around my house during the day, let alone walk in the towns we are scheduled to see in Italy. But it has been a good reminder of the blessing I have had all these years of being able to walk.

No, but Prolia after the third and then especially after the fourth shot, I had such pain in my back, arms and neck that I could hardly move. Lasted 2-3 months. Won't take it again and it did nothing for my bone density.

These serious side effects of Evenity and Prolia are not publicized much. Only in discussion groups do we learn.
