Medical Alert Bracelets

Posted by katrina123 @katrina123, Apr 15, 2023

I am thinking about getting a medical alert bracelet for my husband.

Does anyone have a name of a company that makes these?

Thanks
Katrina

I bought one on Amazon. It has his name, my phone number, and the phrase “Mental Impairment “ You can have whatever you want printed on it, I think, on front and back. The clasp is a little tricky and he’s never been able to remove it.

I purchased the Alzheimer's bracelet from DivotiUSA.com with a secure lock clasp that never comes off your wrist. It's crucial for those with memory issues, featuring dual-side engraving with discreet information on the back. This bracelet gives me peace of mind knowing that if my mother wanders, emergency responders can easily identify her and keep her calm.

@jennyc580 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! Finding a workable product must bring you quite a sense of relief.

I have used Medic Alert Foundation products for several years. Not too long ago, I was enlisted as a volunteer patient for a group of EMS candidates. Not one stopped to look at my bracelet, prominently displayed on my wrist. After finishing the practical training, I gave them a little talk about how that can be a game-changer, also the fact they never asked me my age. As a former 911 dispatcher, any information I could get from first responders prior to the ambulance showing up, was a win-win!

Do you use any tracking type device for your mother, just in case? A friend of mine did that for her husband. Kinda like a LoJack for people.

Hello Ginger,
I thought MedicAlert had or has some sort of tracking device for Dementia/Alzheimer patients. Last time I was on the MedicAlert side I didn't see it. Do you know if they have such a program?

Medic Alert does have a program for patients who may wander. I purchased the Medic Alert bracelet for my husband who has LBD. The bracelet has a member number on it and their emergency phone number. I just had engraved Lewy Body Dementia. All first responders are familiar with this program. They call the number and are read all information on file. Diseases, allergies, emergency phone numbers and addresses, blood type, medications, etc. They have a program called Safe and Found for people who are apt to wander. Medic Alert works with local authorities. I am a former employee of Medic Alert where I worked as an emergency operator. The company has members worldwide. Jan

@jakedduck1 Leonard, I just called Medic Alert and they told me they do not have a tracking device like you mentioned. They suggested Medical Guardians as a source. But, please look at @jan83404's response! They do contact local authorities.

I think my friend had a GPS tracker on her partner for when he would wander off.

Medic alert is great. In 4 days I will have been a member for 56 years. I know about safe and found but I thought they had a way to track by GPS. Was there ever anything like that? Another question, they sold watches at one time. Didn't they sell or was there some other reason for them being discontinued?
Thanks much,
Jake

Guess what? Sometimes I forget where I parked? my iPhone may track automatically, but for 100% certainty, I use an Apple AirTag GPS tracker. All you need is an AirTag and a holder for the person. Apple's reliability is the best.
