Has anyone else experienced issues with a newly implanted pain pump?

I just want this pain pump out of me!! I've only had it about 3 1/2 weeks and it has been a nightmare. It is pinching a nerve somewhere, and my lower back hurts now. I now have a serious pain in my hip and leg on the side the pump is on when I bend over and stand back up. The pump itself is placed under the skin on my left side near the area of my kidney. I know my doctor doesn't want to, but I want it out of me!! I want to be the one in control of my body! Not to mention I told him 3 times not to use Morphine because of the way my body reacts to it. I came out of surgery and found out although he agreed to use Dilaudid he put morphine in the pump instead. So on top of all the newly added pain and restrictions I'm itching like crazy and nauseous all the time. Can I just insist he remove it? I know he will refuse to help me if he removes it. He has been my pain specialist for several years since my back surgery in 2012.

I have a pump also. It has not given me any pain relief in the year I've had it. It's output has been adjusted up, down, anesthetic added, with no help. My pain doc has not helped to address my ongoing pain. I have asked him several times to reach out to colleagues, look into other avenues...no luck. I find it hard to imagine that your doc would be so reckless as to ignore your directive to not use morphine. During my trial I had both morphine and hydromorphone used. Morphine did nothing; hydromorphone provided very good pain mitigation, so I went ahead with the permanent implant. The rest is history. I am seeing a new pain doc who is doing what I asked my old doc to do. Today I anm going for an EMG. Then we'll look at some other tratment options. My pain ranges from a 7 to 8 on a daily basis. Only lying down helps. I hope you can find the help you need.

I'm going to see my doctor in the morning. I'm just going to go into his office and tell him plain and simply that he has to remove this pump from me. No questions asked, it's my body! I truly hope your new doctor can get you straightened out and get you the relief that you need.

I only know 1 person with a pain pump and it was placed in the abdominal area. She says without it she would be in a wheelchair. I am so sorry you r so miserable and having so much trouble. I would talk to my doctor who implanted and see if there was some reason he used MS instead of dilaudid. Maybe try the dilaudid before you have the pump removed? I hope things get better for you. Hang in there .

Thank you I'm going back to the doctor on Tuesday. I plan to talk to him about where he placed the pump and why I'm in so much pain.

Yes I still have it to date. My Dr. Insists that it is the GOLD standard for pain relief and that's impossible for it to be affecting a nerve or causing any pain. He insists I see an Ortho for my lower back and hip pain. I'm seeing the Ortho this afternoon. Ready for answers!
