Recovery Time for Pneumonia in 11 year old boy

Hi Everyone,

My 11 old has been having a fever since last Wed July 10th, we went to the ER last Friday and was diagnosed with Pneumonia, he was put on antibiotics since then so it has been 4 days but he still has a fever. Fever gets suppressed by Tylenol/Advil, but comes back after 5 to 8 hours. Other symptoms include coughing, stomach pains, chest pains, the normal symptoms of pneumonia.

I am not worried about the other symptoms, but I am worried about the fact that he has been on antibiotics for 4 days and the fever is still there. Any advice, anyone?

Thanks

Have you spoken with your doctor? Seems like the fever should be gone by now but I'm not a doctor. I've had pneumonia three times this year. I have pulmonary fibrosis so it's not a good thing to get. Hope things get better soon.

@g4suaij I would say it is time for a visit with his primary care provider. The emergency room is great for initiating treatment, but it is no substitute for comprehensive care, and pneumonia in an 11 year old should not be taken lightly. Even if he is now getting better, please arrange for followup care.
Have you scheduled a visit? Is he doing better now?
