I am having accupuncture. I only had one session. Accupuncture does do something. It put me in a dreamlike state. I have PHN on my upper left side of face. It is bearable. But I wish it would disappear. I am on a strict anti inflammatory diet and boosting my vitamins.
I have had the best luck with orthopedic shoes from Anodyne. They are made for diabetics and people with other feet issues like neuropathy. I have shoes and custom inserts and they have helped my foot pain immensely. They are seamless on the inside to protect from cuts and sores and have helped keep my feet safe and secure!
hi jjwest - have your vitamin b-12 checked. I am on 900 mgs of gabapentin. I also have vit b-12 shots and take 5000 mg of vit b-12 under the tongue every day. Ideally your vit b-12 needs to be in the upper limits of normal
I had slight neuropathy on my left side only for at least a few years. I’m not sure why it started, but I put it down to age. I am 72 years old and I can say I was getting around very well until six months ago. Suddenly it became constant and now in both legs and feet. My doctor prescribed gabapentin 600mg three times a day. WHOA…I was zombiefied! I cut it down to 300mg twice but had to up it to three times a day within a month so I wasn’t feeling discomfort while sleeping. It helps a lot, especially by the time I take my second dose. At that point, the numbness and tingling is almost nonexistent. I can say it has helped me greatly, but I am fearful of the addiction aspect, and I do notice after the third dose that my gait can be a little wonky. I don’t know why I feel anxious about getting hooked on so many pills. Is anyone else like this? I haven’t been able to find or do anything that helps it other than this medication. The physical therapist that works on my back has already told me there is nothing they can do to help this kind of pain. I’m trying to manage my expectations and realize I can live with the feeling or take medication. I think I just hate when those become the only two options. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Yes. I developed with cancer medication taken orally. The pain is at times like someone is crushing my hands with a hammer. From taking 100 mg of Gabapentin 3x’s daily to 4 3x’s daily I was determined to get off of it for I did not like how it made me feel. I ordered wrist braces for both arms. I wore them at night. I also drastically changed my diet. I am now down to 3 at bedtime. I no longer wear the wrist braces.

Can someone explain to me why users of gabapentin worry enough about getting addicted to the drug. When I look it up the info I have found says it is not addictive. Am I missing something?

Yes, I'd like to know also!!! I've been on Gabapentin about 3 months. 2700mg total a day now. It helps and it makes me a little loopy. But my research also shows no addictive aspects. Its is not a narcotic.
I also smoke marijuana with Gabapentin and I am trying Cat's Claw which is a vine from South America which helps arthritis and neuropathy. Some whiskey at night too!

No you’re not missing anything.
I haven’t heard or read anything saying that Gabapentin was addicting.
I was on it for several years, and it actually didn’t help my CIDP.

Gabapentin is a schedule 5 drug (lower potential for abuse) and a controlled substance in some states. It’s primarily addictive to people who choose to abuse it. Some people use it to enhance the euphoric effects of opioids or other illicit substances. I was never concerned about it being addictive and have taken it on three different occasions, It was never effective for my seizures or neuropathy. According to researchers it's not effective in many people because they're simply not taking a high enough dose. However in some people unwanted side effects prevent them from taking higher doses.
Take care,
Jake

Has all that really helped? You didn’t mention whether or not it helped. A lot of people have tried Gabapentin and B-12 but it didn’t help them.

Do you feel like taking them at bedtime helps your pain throughout the day?
